**Official Unigine Valley Leaderboard**

I did do a run at 5898*1080 and scored around 7% higher than my previous best with the 7970's which were clocked at 1140/1650 from memory. Not to bad was hoping for more. At 1080p my 7970's gave near 100% scaling. Will have to try the PCI-E 3 hack and see if that makes a difference.

P.S. I subsequently discovered that my second card is boosting to 1016, according to Nvidia Inspector.
 
Using the full screen render test in GPU-Z (v0.7.1) the second card starts off at PCI-E 2 but then drops back to 1.1 after 5-6 seconds.

Yeah this is because GPU-Z won't actually put the 2nd card into full-speed. Try this:

nvidia control panel -> manage 3d settings -> global settings -> power management mode -> prefer maximum performance

Bare in mind like this though the cards won't clock down fully when not being used (my 670s stay at ~700Mhz instead of going down to 324Mhz when this setting is on).
 
Thanks Deceptor, just tried your suggestion but it still shows the second card as running at PCI-E 1.1 Probably has something to do with the beta motherboard BIOS I'm having to run. Nice score on your 670's BTW, will get you up there on the dual GPU leader board.

I wouldn't worry really, when I ran the same test MSI Afterburner showed 0% usage on the 2nd card for me and the usual 324Mhz clock so it was running in PCI 1.1 mode so clearly the GPU-Z test isn't working the way it should. Perhaps try running Valley in windowed mode and seeing when the main GPU-Z shows for the lane speed? I know when I do that both are reporting x8 for me.

That single card score is pretty high too! I remember only being able to get ~1,900 on my 680 (modestly clocked).

What fan speed % does the card get to on auto fan during this benchmark? And your temperature? Do you have to setup a custom fan curve to stop boost from dropping back?
 
I slightly modified the EVGA Precision X fan profile. On this bench temperature gradually gets up to 70C and then hovers around there. Fan speed is around 63% at this temperature. Boost was pegged at 1162.

Thanks - ran it in windowed mode and GPU-Z reporting both cards running at PCI-E 2. Definitely got a CPU bottleneck though, just ran it in SLI and on one of the scenes GPU usage was down at 65% on both cards. Trying to hold out for Ivybridge-E and a 4930K, just wish Intel would hurry up!

Was just pondering with that setup, having Xfire 7870XTs at 16x4x speeds whether it's worth it to get a motherboard that supports 8x8x or not :o

I will come back to you in a day or two with some solid answers regarding that. A new motherboard is en route. I am taking a few benchmarks now so i can compare.

I have to say, im quite impressed with how a gimped pci-e lane performs. If you're on pci-e 3.0 i wouldn't hesitate for x16 x4 multi gpu setup. If like me you're on pci-e 2.0 though that might be a different matter.
 
Yeah, I was reading the article on Tomshardware about the lane speeds although hey tested a HD6950.
And it is very dependent on the games too how much loss in performance there will be.
But I am still looking forward with your results :D
