** Official WoW Catalysm Alpha/Beta Thread **

Ah, well I wouldn't worry about DPS for leveling and battlegrounds to be honest.

Battlegrounds/PvP are all about control, so you want to be frost, fire is effective too but far more difficult to play.

For leveling, I'd stay away from Arcane, and probably be Frost.

cool thanks :), ok will go with frost or fire, will look through the talent trees and see what i like the look of more.

edit: think ive had it with this game 2 days after buying it, constant lag when i play tried 2 realms now, and every other online game i play is fine.

With Virgin Media by any chance? Currently there is a problem with their traffic shaping software and it is flagging WoW traffic as P2P, which is allocated as low priority.

Tried raiding last night with 800ms ping, it wasn't fun :(

What lag?

Realm I'm on is only 140ms at peak times and dungeons is only 200ms.

If you are getting lag, there is something wrong at your end.

There have been server lag problems in the past but currently, there are none.

yeah with VM, is it expected to be fixed soon?

Had the same problem when I was on O2 ages ago, all game speeds were being capped due to system problems, I soon left.

Sucks :p

I wouldn't put it past them to do it on purpose.
TalkTalk did for a long time. Had to use smoothping up until a few months ago because I couldn't change ISP.

another question here :P Mate just asked if i knew the reason wow doesnt work for him anymore, he said it ran before all these new updates, but now its too choppy and slow to even move, he has a VERY old rig, 512mb ddr1 ram, amd 3200, and a nvidia 5200 128mb running at 1024x768.

Would an upgrade of ram help him run the game at the very lowest settings? Or would he need a new cpu too to even make it playable.

Update his drivers. Delete the wtf/config.wtf file. Log in. Fix video settings. Report back.

If it's still fubar then he needs to spend some money.

My mate has a similar rig and WoW runs like a piece of crap for him aswell.

At the time my specs are E6750 2.66Ghz, 2GB DDR2 and an 8400GS. I could just barely get 30FPS with every single setting on low, when I upgraded to a 4850 512MB I could play with every setting on ultra and get 60+FPS constant.

Got a laptop running it and it's pretty old to boot. For those interested, pentium m 2.13 + x300 64mb + 2gb. Choppy but bearable at 1024x768.
