I recently got an 360 and I'm going to be using it with a 19" crt monitor till I get something bigger and better. I had a search and it seems like it will do the job fine. What I wasn't sure about was if I should bother getting the Official VGA adapter cable? Is there a big difference with the much cheaper ones?

I'm a bit clueless about this generation of consoles and never really poke my head out of the PC Games section. Sorry if this seems like a silly question.

yes and no. I have the official and Joytech ones and have noticed no difference. However, a lot of people have had poor experiences with 3rd party ones, probably best to play it safe and get the official one.

Thanks for the info. I will be needing a male to female adapter, and I don't think you get those with the third party jobs.

Well worth getting the official one, the joytech and blaze ones I've seen at various LAN's have been terrible!

Speaking from experience, I purchased a Joytech soon after the console launch as the official ones were so hard to find.

Had about 2 months worth of thinking the picture quality was brilliant until I switched to the official one.

Definately go official! Picture quality is sharp and vibrant and I also think the official one just feels that much better made and more reliable.

Pretty much all the 3rd party ones are unshielded cables so you get horrible colour bleed and fuzzy picture.

The official ones look far far better.

I'm one of those people who will only ever buy official accessories and leads, No idea why, but it worked out great for this hehe.

I went ahead and got the official one. It's looking great.

I'm wondering though. It's 19'' monitor, max res is 1600x1200. What resoultion should I be choosing in the xbox settings ideally?

non widescreen?

Basically the highest res that will fit the aspect ratio. :)

Yeah. It's not a widescreen. I've been googling about and came across someone claiming going higher than 1280x720 makes the xbox go into 520 then upscales to 1080, and I didn't really understand what the deal was there or if it was pootalk.

Using the VGA cable you'll be able to select 1600x1200, worked fine for me and couldn't notice the difference when I tried 720P and 1080P on my new monitor :)
