Official Xbox Live headsets fixable?

My second headset has broken on me, the mic has stopped working but the earphone still works.

Is it possible to easily fix them or should I just pay the £12 for a new one?
Anyone else managed to fix them?

New one I say. My mate have been through plenty. They say unofficial ones tend to be of better build quality though. Also cheaper.

That's generally crap as those kinds of headphones require more power to drive them, and the 360 pad only outputs very low power signals.

Ahh Thanks, It's a good job you mentioned that then , I was going to get around to making my own version some time. I guess I better make a CMoy or similar amp at the same time to drive them

Can anyone recommend some replacement headsets then, that don't cost the earth?

instead of getting rubbish ones that break all the time and money adding up just splash out on some turtle beach or something
