Just built my rig but when i boot up i get a long monotonous beep (award bios) which i believe is a GPU problem.

Am i right?

Especially as when i remove the GPU i just get a very short quick beep and then nothing.

Also when i boot up the CPU fan takes a few seconds to start spinning, i take it this is normal as *** CPU staarts to heat up?

Hope this helps M8...

Ok i am an idiot.

I didn't connect a power supply to mt 8800Gt although the installtion instructions received with it made no mention of this.

Just a quick thing when i boot it up now the case fan spins, then a few seconds later the CPU fan spins but then stops, bearing in mind i haven't powered it for more than 5-10 seconds so far, would i be right in thinking this is just beacuse the CPU is hot enough yet (i have a E8400) hich i beleive run cooler?

Although i'm no expert, i'd expect the cpu fan to be on at all times, even if only at a slow and quiet speed.

You got it properly connected ?

Furthermore, are you sure this is the CPU fan and not the noise of the Graphics card fan confusing you...

At boot, the 8800GT will spin really fast and loud for approx five seconds and then slow right down to quiet as the display appears on screen.

Check you're not mistaking this for the cpu fan :)

The fan for the CPU should spin regardless of heat. The long beep as said about could be a motherboard issue,

try resetting the CMOS... should be a jumper

With the stock heatsink and fan, my 2160 did this and it would be 30 seconds or more before the CPU was hot enough for the fan to kick in.

With a copper ninja on it, it can be several minutes before the fan starts.
