Oh dear...travelling to Amsterdam but no passport

I'd give it a shot to be honest.

It'll just cause hassle if you get to the airport(?) and can't set off, your chum will be a bit let down aswell as presumably they wouldn't go on their own.

What's the worst that could happen? They say you can't go. Well, that's no different to where you are now. So you have more to gain than to lose. Plus, coaches seem to be more lenient than travelling via plane etc. I've been twice when I was a wee nipper with the school and our passports never got checked.

Not really important to this as it goes. School trips very rarely get checked as they assume that no school would be stupid enough to try and take a student without a valid passport.

I'd risk it, the worst they could do is tell you you're not going. Once you're over there, you could get an emergency passport if there were problems.

Possibly, but on the flipside, I imagine there would be a few kids without, as there are parents that can't be bothered to sort it and just blag it to the school.

/note to self, should I, in future have a child and need to run away from my partner, take the kid on a 'school-trip'

Some EU countries will accept a new style driving licence as a National ID card...

You could try that, ring Dutch embassy

UK should let you back in no issues, but holland may refuse entry if they spot its out of date...
