If this is true it spells very bad news for the PC as future releases will just in general be the 360 game running on a PC via a Windows 8 emulator  already we are getting some junk ported this will even stop that why will they bother if the 360 version runs on a PC no need to make any PC specific version is there!

No wonder MS are not interested in progressing the PC gaming world if their apparent plan is to force Xlive onto us via a new OS capable of running original 360 games (nice idea as an add-on but not for the future) all the while they are working on a DX11 based new console to be announced in 2012........... this move will also force the downsizing of Steam & other digital download distributors as PC games will shrink drastically if the OS is designed around running the 360 DVD via an emulator.

I hope it never happens but it sounds as though it will as MS shutdown the GFWL dedicated forums & moved them to the xbox forums (all xbox forums are horrible now the website is very poor) the lack of anything specific from MS recently makes it look on the outside like they are gearing up to implement this on their new OS to kickstart gaming on PC using the existing Xlive features & games software which will obviously save them a lot of money & hurt their PC based competitors who rely on PC games to make money like Steam do. By all means make a 360 emulator capable of running the games on PC but forcing it onto the consumer will never work other than reduce the PC games market as publishers are already finding excuses to not do much on PC :(

Erm, am i the only one who sees no mention in those articles of windows 8 supporting 360 games? All i can see is them saying Xbox Live will be built in, instead of being a downloadable application.

Now i own an good gaming PC and a 360 and i dont even like this idea if true! Just keep them separate as it should be but i can also see the idea taking off well but dedicated great PC games will be even few and far between and their scare as it is now :(

You couldn't emulate a 360 on a PC. The 360 is just too darn modern for that to work.

I didn't see anything in those articles about emulation anyhow. Multi-platform games will continue to have to be ported.

I didnt read the article tbf i just read what he said if thats case meh i see no problem with having live built into Windows doubt it will force you to use it.

OP, the linked articles mention nothing about PCs emulating 360 stuff. I really can't understand how you've been able to read all that and come to the conclusions you have. Did you link to the right articles?

I don't see why you are so scared of it? Not all games will be gfwl games, the devs that currently
Make pc releases will continue to do so, I also doubt it'll happen because it will damage their hardware. I think they are just pushing for standards across their devices, obviously a good thing, I always expected a live integration into windows 8

I'd love to play some console exclusives on my PC, but they won't do so, because of the M+K advantages etc.

It's a shame M$ is trying to force their crap upon people now, it should just be optional. Looks like I'll stick with W7.

Won't that mean some people will be working out ways to build out Xbox Live basically the moment its released?

Fail thread.

Most likely.

Also i'd wager EA/Valve/other digital distribution companies will take up a law suit on the same grounds that were used to make Microsoft offer other internet browsers on first use. Unfair competition etc.

In this case, I think integrating GFWL into Win8 is a good thing. I've already integrated it into my current win7 image, as it happens.

We all saw the trainwreck that was GTA4 + GFWL. That's what happens when you make optional software that doesn't correctly patch itself to the latest version, and distribute an old version of it with a game.

If it's integrated into Windows it can be auto-patched via Windows updates, at least.
