im not sure where to post this but here seems good enough. my granddad cant send e-mails anymore. he got a message saying his IP address has been blocked due to compaints about e-mails from it. he hasnt sent anything classed as spam so im wondering if maybe he has a virus that is sending out more viruses from his computer? thing is its a minimac so i dont see how it can be. how can i fix this? thanks

Seeing as i've never seen this issue before I have some quandaries:

1. Is it a static or dynamic IP?
2. Is it the only computer on the network?
3. If both of them are yes then post a list of all the current running processes:

There is a way of doing this in terminal but I cant remember what it is, try and extract them all from the Activity Monitor which is in Applications/Utilities

i cant get to the mac now to see the processes but it is the only one on teh network and i guess its static. the email got a reply from post master or something saying that hotmail had blocked him. i think mes with saga or something. ill try and find out more but its tricky. thanks guys

Try and get the full transcript of the email including headers. It could be rubbish.

Is he on a wireless network of any kind? Perhaps someone is snaffling internet connection on the wifi?

As Feek says, a look at the letter would hopefully clarify the situation.

it could be spam itsself but i dont think the e-mail sent, its deffinatly not wireless but im not sure how secvure his connection is (no security due to mac)

He doesn't use wireless security because he's using a Mac? :o

You realise that means anyone in range can use his internet connection for any uses; which sounds like what has happened.

(Someone has logged on his network and used his bandwidth to spam some people/servers - then his IP got banned)

1. Is that because he/you thought cos its a mac that you don't need wireless security.

or

2. He/you didn't know how to (easily) set it up?

Most ridiculous thing i've ever read

What? He just plainly said he isn't even using wireless.

its deffinatly not wireless

I noted that too - jesus people are quick to criticise.

I'd try sending an email to yourself from his email; if it gets through it was spam, if not tell him to get on the phone to his ISP.
