Oh decisions decisions

Hi Guys,

First let me apologise if this question gets a bit annoying. I have read the FAqs but there is nothing like a good ole human response.

I want to get a 19" TFT and have about 150-250 pounds to spend.

My main question is about response times. I dont play games that much but have recently got into Farcry and am loving it so i would like my monitor to look good with that game at least. I also do some 3d modelling and the usualy stuff.

I have a Winfast 6800 GPU with VGA and DVi outputs.

I want the monitor to have a DVI input.

Im not asking for people to decide for me but would like to know about the specs and how important certain things, like response, are. Will a 12ms response time be good enough? cos then i can spend more on the other specs etc.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

might be worth having a read through about specs here in particular the bits about panel technologies and response time. The "old" 12ms and 8ms generation panels were very similar in real performance and you would be hard pressed to notice much, if any, difference in real terms between their responsiveness for gaming. However, with the dawn of 'overdrive' technology, manufacturers have managed to reduce pixel latency quite considerably. Look for the models with G2G (grey to grey - again in that link) response time as these feature this technology. As a result, you may notice some improvement with the new 4ms G2G panels for instance. Within your budget the Samsung 930BF might be a good option. This uses a eavy dose of overdrive to improve responsiveness and does offer some noticable ipmrovement over the 12ms/8ms generation before this tecnology. It also has DVI and so fits the bill there too.

Other models which pop up a lot in these kind of questions are th Sasung 913N (no DVI though) and the Neovo F419. The F419 is a 12ms panel, without overdrive. It might still be responsiveness enough for you though, and certainly many people find it fine. It would be a little (only a little) more rounded than the 930BFthough with slightly wider viewing angles, and smoother movie playback thanks to the lack of overdrive.

For a gamer, i think the 930Fwould be an excellent choice. The Neovo F419 and also the Hyundai L90D+ are also good choices to look at

Hi

Just a quick note having read this thread. The Neovo F419 monitor referred to now seems to be a 4ms (GTG) device rather than 12 mS as described on the OC page. I get this info from the specification link on the OC page.

Cheers Andy

hi Andy

Yeah, Neovo recently updated their spec for the F419. However, I'm pretty sure the OcUK stock is the 12ms edition still. If anyone is worried about this, you can always check with the shop before ordering to be sure
