Oh how the mighty have fallen

Yes data produced by "International Living Magazine" is very valid.

Most of these "surveys" are produced by rubish magazines trying to get a bit of free publicity.

Seems to about selling property abroad. Nah they are not going to say the UK is wonderfull.

Laughable.

Don't more aussies and NZers overstay their visas than any other nationalities?
French people come to the UK for more economic opportunities - the UK is a much better place to do business.

It's swings and roundabouts.

Maybe so but I'd still prefer to live here than in most of the countries on that list. I tend to be a bit dubious of such reports/indexes as they don't necessarily value the same things I do and they may well be starting from a position of bias (as am I).

magazine producing controversial survey and gets massive free publicity and royalties!!!!

Well I never!

I lived in California for a couple of years and yes the weather was nice, but I still got homesick after a while. France is nice, but its ruined by all the french, same with Spain

Not sure what your point is? I'd much rather live in a nice place than somewhere that's good to do business in.

Well looking at their criteria:

Cost of Living - pretty high where i live

Culture and Leisure - very good with london being just 20 min away

Economy - shockingly bad lately!

Environment - don't know what this measures? if pollution then where i live i have clean air and water and i like the english countryside

Freedom - Well our war on terror and nanny state severely restrict this

Health - NHS is about average

Infrastructure - pretty bad! railway is outdated, roads are congested, bus services are terrible and our airports are clogged

Safety and Risk - crime in my area is pretty low but i know it can be pretty bad in other places (stabbings in london come to mind)

Climate - compared to Mediterranean its terrible!

all in all i can see why we are not in the top 20

Well, as I said - it's swings and roundabouts. France is a nightmare for small businesses, as such, it's probably not somewhere I'd want to live at this stage of my life. Perhaps when I retire.

London, by comparison is one of the best cities in the world to live in if you're young, and especially if you have a bit of disposable income.

That's not to say that we're perfect, it all depends what you want.

Have to agree with most of this. The only thing I would particularly enjoy about here compared to some others on that list is the consumerism. If I want something here I can probably buy it! I'd hate to live somewhere like Australia or Canada where their technology retail is even more scarce and extortionate than here.

I'm not sure I'd put Britain 25th but I can say from experience that there are plenty of other countries that offer a better quality of life.

Still, home will always be home for most people. I'd had enough and voted with my feet.
