Dr Pat Hagerman's (of Scotlea Idol Rods) General Lee rep. Hot 440 RB motor with a trick cold air induction setup, beefy 727 auto 'box, and just perfect inside and out.

Rest of the photos, including the pre-build shots, can be found HERE. Some serious attention to detail on that car....

one thing's for sure, Bo and Luke never had THAT under their bonnet.

:D

If they had, then Rosco would have had even less of a chance at catching them :)

They probably had a high compression motor running on moonshine? :p

Hate to say it, but generally they were running a near bog-stock 383 B motor :p 440 RBs were used for some of the longer jumps, and at least one 318 car was built for when they had to drive the General up on two wheels.

Think the movie showed a Hemi in the engine bay, but they dubbed it with a sodding Chevrolet big block.....cretins.

you DO know how much of an anorak that makes you don't you? the fact that you noticed the engine note didn't match what you were looking at. hehe

In my defence, it was fairly obvious!

To me, anyway.

The 318 had about 140bhp/ton then, not so bad but not enough to take off either

The good thing about the 318 is that there is a fair amount of headroom for gaining more power. Just sticking on a better inlet manifold, a 4bbl carb, headers and a slightly pokier cam will add a good chunk of power. It's a shame the 2nd gen Charger never got the 340 six-pack. That would have been a fun proposition - rated at 290hp stock (actually producing rather more), with the lower weight of the small block. Would have beaten up on the 383 quite handily at any rate....
