Hey Guys,

I need some help. I have a Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics card at 4GB. I am looking to upgrade, as for instance, red dead 2 runs at 40fps, Cyberpunk at 65 fbc and call of duty at 65. I have 24 gb of ram. However I was advised to upgrade my graphics card. So which one is the next step up? without completely destroying the bank.

Thanks

What is the full specification of your pc , cpu, monitor resolution you use and the power supply you have in the pc what is wattage, model number and brand.

Then I'm sure the ladies and gents on the forum can help you more and in the right way after having the information needed.

Those frame rates aren't too bad for a GTX 1650 (depending on settings and resolution).

The lowest upgrade I'd consider from a GTX 1650 would be a RX 6600 (for 1080p), which OCUK currently have the PowerColor Fighter for £250. There's also a RX 6700 for £350, or the FE 3060 Ti, if you can get one in stock.

If you have a GTX 1650 Super I'd consider the RX 6700, or FE 3060 Ti the lowest meaningful upgrade.

If you're playing at 1440p or 4K, then I'd suggest something higher-end.

I would say that this is the next meaningful step up, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powe...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-1ad-pc.html
If you want to stay with Nvidia IMO the next step would be, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-1eu-gi.html
This would be more future proof in raster performance than the other 2 for the step above them, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powe...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-1al-pc.html

Hope that helps. (If you want something a bit cheaper to buy and run than the 2060 then there is the 3050 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pali...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-06j-pl.html)

The 1650 runs without the need for an extra power cable from the power supply. You will need to check if the power supply that you have can manage to supply the power needed for a more powerful card and if it has the extra pcie cables needed to plug in to the card. You will also need to check if there is room in the case for what might be bigger cards

Hey as I am new to this.
I found some specs:
Device name DESKTOP-TECDT4M
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-10105F CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
Installed RAM 24.0 GB (23.9 GB usable)
Device ID D9F368C7-4896-481D-9E8F-923FF40F5417
Product ID 00326-10000-00000-AA850
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
Computer Monitor: MSI 27" Curved Monitor

I have only upgrade the RAM.
I take it you added a kit of 16Gb then? Assuming you got a 2x8Gb kit the best 'upgrade' you can do for free performance is remove the odd amount of Ram and let the 16Gb kit run In dual channel mode. I know it sounds like it's going backwards as the total is less but it's configuration is more important.

As for a GPU upgrade an RX6600 would give you 3x to 4x the frame rate over a big standard 1650 and the low power draw should hopefully mean you can use the same PSU just check if you have a spare 8pin or 2 6 pins

You can run mixed ram sizes and still get the full benefit of dual channel mode.

As long as the total ram in each channel is the same then its all good. E.g. 8gb +4gb channel A and same for channel B.

If channel A had 16gb but channel b had 8gb it will knock down to single channel mode.

Correct but a lot of these pre builds use single stick memory.

Your use of 'however' implies you're quite happy with the current performance. So don't upgrade until you're not - you'll get more for your money if you wait until you actually need to.

Dunno if this helps but I have had my 480 8GB Red Devil card for years and years and am looking to upgrade.

For me, the soon to be released 6700 at £350 hits that "sweet spot" for me so you may wish to have a look.

Be aware that Nvidia are rumoured to be launching their next range of GPUs in a month or two; rumour also has it that they're leading off with the most expensive ones (likely £1000+), with more modestly priced models to follow in some months with the mass market models coming around Christmas or early next year.

Right now, I think the RTX 3050 would be a good upgrade for you. You will see significantly improved framerates and some games will benefit from the increased VRAM. OCUK don't sell them now but they should be under £250.

Obviously if you can spend more money then you can get a better GPU.

interesting recommendation...why the 3050 over the 6600 for the same price?
(they both have the same tgp so psu upgrade would apply equally)

I've checked prices and am going to change my recommendation to the RX 6600. If you can get a RTX 3050 at MSRP then that's still the preferred card but retail prices are another matter.

HUB still not comparing ray tracing in games with dlss/fsr, I wonder how they would both have done in Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing and dlss/fsr
