I installed a new heatsink today. it was fidly but fine in the end. the temps were great. it was on for a good 4 hours running fine.

I then shut the pc down, and restart to go into the bios. I pressed the power button and nothing. It does this occasionally, i have to phycially plug the power supply out.

plugged it back in and the powerswitch works again. but this time no post. fans run, leds light up on mother board, hard drive whirrs for 3 secs then nothing. Nothing at all.

What do you suggest i do?

harware
f-190hd
antec fusion and 400w power supply
E4300
corsair 2 gig ram
ati 1600xt.
help much appreciated.

I'd suggest the big one..motherboard..has gone.Simply because you've installed a new heatsink which can stress and break motherboards.

Can you clear the CMOS, by taking out the battery for 10 seconds and putting it back in.
Also make sure no power is going to the PC while doing this.
If not make sure the heatsink is properly seated like good contact with the CPU and if it is push pin make sure all the pins are secure.
Its abit weird you have to unplug from the mains and replug, maybe a dodgy PSU which would mean to a RMA.
But also try a different wall plug socket.

I seem to be reading of this same problem quite often on here recently.
Same thing happened to my old 939 pc. Tired most usual routes, but I'm pretty sure the motherboard packed in after 3 years service.

new motherboard in, pc boots up fine.

Vista is incredible, its sorted itself out completely, even though a new MB is in.

Should i bother reformatting? it seems super stable at the moment.

Also, any suggestions for the old board?

Make sure vista is still activated - unless you own the retail version :) I often find it wont tell you until a few days before it kicks you out.
