Hi

I'm 'thinking' of getting a new car. Yes, after 5 months of plodding along in my 1.1 Rover 200, I feel the need for something with a little more poke / comfort. It may have something to do with me having a drive in my sister's brand new Ibiza FR yesterday.... but that's by the by :p

I don't want anything near the performance of that, I think I would kill myself within about 10 minutes flat, but am thinking of something around the £5k mark, give a take a grand.

Been scouting Autotrader & for some reason am being drawn towards Focii, the 1.6 / 1.8 petrol variants particularly. Anything I should be looking out for? Any other cars I shouldn't discount? I think I'd prefer a 'family hatchback' type size but if someone can provide me with a fantastic argument for a mondeo sized car I may waver ;)

Cheers

PS - I would prefer to buy trade in case anyone wants to search, have a random post code from around my area to help TS20 1AL

Look at the 2.0 Focus Zetec really. I found it was marginally (£40) more on insurance quotes for the 2.0 over the 1.8.

You should also be able to get the Mk3 Mondeo for that money too. Though I don't know that much on them.

Well theres quite a big selection with a 4-6k budget, I've also been looking.

My shortlist is :

Alfa Romeo 147
Astra 2.2 SRI
Toyota Corolla T3 1.8VVTi

But then you also have:

Ford Focus
Renault Megane
Seat Leon
VW Golf
Audi A3

I have been looking at the Audi A3 as well, won't go for it though as you get a 3-4 years older car that any of the others :D

Won't be getting a Seat, my dad has a new Leon & now the sis an Ibiza, that'd just be wierd if we all had the same :p

I do like the look of the 147, hadn't even thought about it...

After looking at your profile (assuming its correct) why are you worried about high-powered cars?

What sort of NCD and license duration are we talking about?

Passed test in March this year, 0 NCD. That's why I'm concerned about high powered cars :)
