Crikey its been a while since i posted in here. The last time i was in here was when i was thanking people for helping me to choose the Dell 2001FP about 2 or so years ago (thanks, Badass :) ). Well, i sold that about 6 months ago and have since been using a Samsung 40" HDTV, which is nice, but i am starting to find it hard to actually game using it, its simply too far away and i miss sitting at a desk with a keyboard and mouse on a solid surface!

So now i have noticed OcUK stocking the A02 revision of the Dell 2407WFP(?), and i am thinking about taking the dive and going for one. I have read about it at Badass' site (top notch btw) and would now just like peoples opinions as to whether they think it is worth it, or if they would just try and get along with the HDTV...

I would use it mostly for gaming with BF2 etc, browsing the web, and working on websites (as in photoshop/notepad/etc), and find the latter impossible to do on my HDTV.

So has anyone got one of these, oh, and Gibbo, how much stock do you have left of the current A02 revision and when do the offers end? I havent bought from you guys in a while and have forgotten when your offers are updated...!

Thanks

I think offers are Thursday to Thursday - should g ive you a week to make up your mind :)

I have had my 2407 (Rev. A01) for nearly 2 months now - couldn't be more happy. Hooge working area and whilst smaller than my 2 x 17" TFT setup is much nicer to use. The widescreen is awesome in games (BF2 requires tweaking).

Also as I'm sure your aware there are enough connections on the back to satisfy more or less anyone.

I got mine from a competitor that had them at 680 all in a while back and although it's a lot of money I can truly see this screen lasting for years.

General desktop/webrosing use this is great. Firefox/mIRC/BSPlayer/Winamp all on screen at once and plenty of space to work with.

Games wise things look stunning and even when dropping resolution to cope the monitor scales the image beautifully :)

I'll shut up now though as I think I keep repeating myself.

/waffle off

BUY BUY BUY!!!

as you've already realised, the higher resolution and lower dot pitch of a desktop TFT like the 2407WFP will offer much better performance in windows / office / web work than an HDTV will like your 40" LCD. It would certainly offer a great screen for these uses and it's a very good screen all round really. Gaming would obviously require a pretty hefty graphics card to run at high settings at the full 1920 x 1200 res, but the screen has some decent responsiveness as well. If you found your 2001FP fine for gaming before, then the 2407WFP should be fine for you from a response time / pixel latency point of view. Just be aware you might need a decent graphics card for the extra res :)

Can you connect a games console to the 2407?

you certainly can. The 2407WFP has composite and component inputs and you could also use VGA from some consoles. You have to bare in mind what res you are input-ing from the console, but the screen can play with borders if you want to maintain a certain aspect ratio or resolution, and also offers picture in picture (PiP) and picture by picture (PbP)

Hi all

I'm also very interested in the Dell 2407wfp. Don't do games but do view video streams (BBC) and DVD's and also image processing.

How does it compare with the Samsung 244T (been out a while so maybe a replacement due soon).

Any other 23"/24" monitors worth considering?

How do OC/Dell treat you if you get a unit with dead pixels etc.?

Thanks for your help.

My system is'nt too bad, i currently have a 6800GS (256mb onboard) and it runs 1600x1200 alright with BF2, i can always get a better GFX card, i paid all that money for the 2407WFP i wont mind the extra bit for the new card...!

If it impresses me that much Baddass id be happy to write another review like i did last time for the 2001FP?

that would be excellent Richie :) The 2001FP review was very helpful for many potential buyers i'm sure

Oh. My. Lord.

I received it today. A review is coming, i can feel the urge.

Mine is A02 (nicely done OcUK, why cant all suppliers tell you what revision its going to be?), had a quick check for dead/lazy pixels with nothing so far, running it on DVI and dont have any problems with blurry text/colour banding so far.

Does anyone know where i can find the correct driver for the 2407WFP? I would prefer to use one from the Dell site rather than the CD as they as usually a little outdated...but i cant seem to find one on their site, only for the 2405 model...

what kind of frame rates quality settings do you get with your 6800gs on this monitor? Whats the picutre like at 1600*1200 playing games?

Havent tested a lot yet, but just ran BF2 at 1280x1024 @ 75hz with everything on medium and AA on 2x and all ran perfectly. Im just googling to find if there are tweaks that can be made to BF2 to run at 1920x1200.

BF2 runs well at 1920x1200 @ 60hz with half settings on high and AA on 2x, with my 6800GS.

No dead/lazy pixels.

No colour banding.

No fuzzy text.

Id like to do a few more tests using what i think is called Pixer Pan...but it either doesnt exist any more or i have the name wrong. I remember using it on my 2001FP and would like to download it to test my 2407WFP, but cant find it! Anyone know the real name and where i should be looking?

How big would the image be if I played BF2 at 1680x1050, 1:1 ratio, on the 2407FPW? I already have a 2005FPW, but this new one looks nicer. I'm not sure whether my hardware would cope with such a high resolution though.

What sort of machine are you running? I have the spec listed in my sig, and in my opinion BF2 runs very well at 1920x1200 with a few settings on high, some on medium and AA set to 2x. Single player and online MP.

AMD64 3700+, 2GB RAM, 7900GTX, watercooled. Everything on high :)
Would you be able to run in 1680x1050 1:1, and whip out your ruler please :)
