Right boys n girls its that time again and a complete new build is required !!

Naturally I'll start with the case.

My new rig will be mainly a gaming platform , slightly overclocked ;) and most probably a X6800 , latest graphics (DX10 when available) , no SLi , and will be air cooled. Water scares the hell out of me

I prefer a big case , just for ease of working on more than anything else. Weight and money isn't an problem as I hope the case will last me for many new builds and additions. Also , I'm looking to build a very quiet rig too !!

I'd like your opinion on the which of the following cases will suit me best based on your experience or which ones I should consider if not listed :

Silverstone TJ03 or TJ07 ( TJ09 looks nice too ) ;)

Lian Li S80B or V1000B+ or V2000B+ ( of course )

Akasa Eclipse 62

Antec P180

Cheers in advance :D

I'd say not the p180. Nice case, but can be tricky to build in and the other cases you have listed are better quality. My vote would go wit the s80 or v2000. Ive just got a v2000 myself, and it lovely and roomy inside, so very easy to work with.

Cheers for the replies :D

Which model of the V2000 has the side mounted fan ???

I take it its the plus version but have seen these without the side intake fitted , is it just pot luck which version I get ?

V series looks better in silver, and silver hides dust better. :p

S80 can only be in black though, the silver actualy looks wrong to me!

Take what colour you would prefer, and I would go with a v2000 / v1000 as they are still very roomey or the S80, as I have done.

TJ07 is another very good case, but it is beaten by build quality and potential for low noise / cfm cooling by all the cases listed, however if you do not care about noise it has the potential to be the best cooler by a mile, but I do not like hoovers for computers personally. :p

Personally id go for the Eclipse 62 but that is probably because i own one lol, great case and excellent cooling. I also own the PC7+ and IMO my Eclipse is the better of the 2 in features and cooling. A lot of people think the PC7+ looks better so its worth seeing both in the flesh if possible.

If your going for the V2000 then i think the black version looks best :) .

rofl's :D

Black for me too , although the silver does look pretty classy :D

I guess bang per buck the V2000B+ looks to be the weapon of choice unless someone has anything else to say on this matter ???

I'm fitting a DVD reader and a seperate writer so do I need additional bezels ?

Also , can the USB ports be relocated as I intend to have the case floor standing and I use a couple of portable HD's for work stuff? The dremel is staying in its case by the way :D

Lastly I will be fitting a fan controller so suggestions would be most welcome ;)

It comes with 1 cd/dvd bezel and 1 floppy bezel. so yes you will need another cd bezel(If you do, can I get the spare blank bezel off you please :) ) The front usb ports can't eally be located elsewhere ithout quite a bit of work.

No problem ;)

Just sorting out my cart now :D

Looking at a Matrix Orbital fan controller , any good ?? .

Is the side fan 80mm ? Would a changeout of the stock fans be recommended to say 120mm Ambers or a good quality quiet dustproof type ?

I don't want to be taking everything apart again so may as well attempt to get it right first time :D

Thanks for putting up with me :p

Cheers. :) No problem, I know what you mean about getting it right the first time. Its a 120mm fan on the side. Im not really sure how good the stock fand are, as ive removed most of them, and im running a rubbish rig in it for the moment. If you want to take the safe option, then yes probably go for some Ambers. As for the fan controller, im not sure on the Matrix orbital. Personally I intend on getting a mCubed T Balancer, as you can use it to control water pumps, led's etc etc.

In the continuing pursuit for quietness ................

Are there any issues that anybody knows of with fitting Silentmaxx hard drive enclosure's in the drive bays of the V2000B+ ???

I will have 1 x Raptor and 2 Spinpoints all in enclosures.

Certainly isn't a problem. I ordered 1 to test for size, but it turned out to be a blue one(I wanted black), and it fitted fine. Im now getting hold of some SmartDrive 2002C instead. Going to be damn expensive in the end as I need 5 in total. :(

I just had a look at those and my god they are expensive !!! But cool as hell , literally :p

Many thanks again ( BTW the Android project is looking brilliant , keep up the good work  )

With enclosures , dampening kits etc this is getting expensive ;)

Still working out how many fan cable adaptors , splitters etc I'm gonna need ! Now I know why people need 1KW PSU's :D

Mind you its gotta be better than the impression of Concorde I have sitting by the side of me at the moment :D

you could buy an optical bay cover and put that over the blue one

It would be behind a Bezel anyway, but thats not the point. Im building the ultimate rig, and I want everything to be just right. Im quite pleased that ive got the SmartDrive 2002C instead, as its got amazing reviews. Going to be a damn expensive rig once ive finished though. V2000 case with 5xSmartDrive 2002C, Custom Phase by Gray Mole, Water cooled NB and GPU, Conroe etc etc. :)

Thanks. Hoping to get quite a bit of work on it this week as im off work. Yeah, it all adds to the cost doesn't it. I can see myself making most of the power cables etc myself to get them just right, ie using 90degree molex's etc.
