Hey all
I got a msi 7900gto and I game at 1680x1050 and bioshock is just too jumpy even when I lower it to 1280x720 now I know I can lower the details some but damn this game just looks to nice :) so I am wondering if its worth getting a X1950 Pro to tie me over too the G92 in november or should I just wait?
Cheers for any advice

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
GeIL 2GB PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2
both running at stock

well for the prices of a X1950 Pro, i don't think you can go far wrong.

I would buy one just to tide me over to the next set of graphic cards which is what you said.

Hi,

Have you tried the nvidia 163.44 drivers?

With a 7800gtx 256mb 430/1200 I can play at 1200 x 1024 and it's reasonably fluid. 20-30fps and occasional dips to 15 if I look at some static smoke of fire. The 7800 is about 60% of the 7900GTO so you should get reasonable results. with 2 in SLI, I'm now getting 30-40 fps with up to 60 in the tighter areas. That's with all settings on high and all options enabled except 'windowed mode' and 'Force Global Lighting'
E4300 @ 3.2Ghz, 7800gtx 256 SLI 480/1300

The 163.44 driver is specifically to address jitter.

As for the x1950PRO, good card but the GTO should be a fair bit quicker, nearly as quick as a x1900XT. Afterall, the GTO is the 7900GTX with slightly slower memory.

I think you'd be wasting your £££ with the ATI.

upgrades would be ATI 2900 or nvidia 8800 GTS

Get a 8800 GTS buying a x1950 pro from a 7900 is a waste of money imo.

You still have to fork out 70.

Get a 8800 GTS 320 MBor 640 MB and play it like it should be played.

yeah agreed, the 7900gto > x1950 pro really isnt worth the jump at all. try to fork out that little bit more, and you will not be let down

running your 6300 at stock isnt helping matters either.

Clock that chip to 3 ghz clock you GTO and watch your FPS increase dramatically

hi
Thanks for all the feedback
the drivers have helped out a fair bit cheers for that decto but I am a fussy git :) and what with Medal of Honor - Airborne and World in Conflict out this month looks like its time to go and tell (beg) the better half that I need a new 8800 GTS 640mb
who knows I might even grow a pair and overclock my cpu :)
Cheers

Im suprised the 7900 GTO can't play it well, wasn't it just an underclocked GTX or something.
Yup all they did was downclock and undervolt the memory a little bit when the 7900s kept blowing up IIRC.

As for the topic at hand, a 7900GTO is probably slightly faster than an X1950Pro anyway (though I'm not sure about in Bioshock in particular) but has inferior image quality to the X1800/X1900/X1950 cards.

I'd stick with what you have for the time being.
