Hmmm, this is not going well, any help would be very welcome.

I managed to push the CPU frequency up to 250 the other day and all was stable, then at 260 it all went horribly wrong....

So I followed this noobs guide ( http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115217 ) and used all of their settings - via a link off another thread here. However I then got the dreaded bsod and rebooted and reset the DRAM timing to auto, which let me reboot. That gave me a chance to run cpuz and SP2004 again and got the following:

More than one CPU detected.
You should run two copies of SP2004 simultaneously.

Any ideas what I've done wrong & what I can do to solve it?

Thanks

Are you using a P5N-E mobo? The older P5N ones with the red chipset heasink wernt good clockers.

What RAM are you using? If its value stuff it may not like running at over 415Mhz

Can you try running the RAM unlinked so its onlt the CPU youre overclocking?

My sig's wrong! It should be a P5B motherboard with P965 chipset

The RAM is Geil DDRII dual channel kit, PC6400 CAS5.

How do I run the RAM unlinked?

Thanks

I dont think you can on the 965 chipset, at least you cant on my DS4.

You should have have an option to run the RAM 1:1 which will let the value stuff get to 400FSB ( 800Mhz RAM ) and it should work fine.

Providing your cpu can do it you can theoretically get 3.6Ghz with it without overclocking your RAM ( 400x9 )

Thanks, I'll give that a try just as soon as I can get it to start up.... at the moment the gfx fan spins like crazy (it usually goes down to normal levels after a couple of seconds) and I get no vid output at all :(

I'll leave it for half an hour and then try it again.

Cheers

Right, got it going again, but not sure what to change.... on the North Bridge Chipset Config page I disable 'Config DRAM Timing by SPD' and the
values are shown like so:

Memory Remap Feature [Disabled]
Configure DRAM Timing by SPD [Disabled]
DRAM CAS# Latency [5]
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay [6 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM RAS# Precharge [6 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM RAS# Activate to Precha [15 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM Write Recovery Time [6 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM TRFC [42 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM TRRD [10]
Rank Write to Read Delay [10]
Rank to Precharge Delay [10]
Write to Precharge Delay [10]
Static Read Control [Disabled]

Any ideas?

Thanks

change theese to 5

DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay [6 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM RAS# Precharge [6 DRAM Clocks]

and try 400x9 + any voltages that may be needed :)

Just tried it, got to the Windows XP prompt then it restarted :( Then it offered safe mode but still wouldn't start.

I've put the cpu back to 250 to see if it helps....

Started okay at 250, here's the cpuz files:

Is there any reason my mobo may be stopping the cpu going over 250? At 250x9 that's only 2250, surely the worst overclock ever? :(

Thanks

Drop the ram divider to 1:1. That'll take the memory out of the equation.

Wish I could :o - I've even looked through the manual and can't find where to do it. Anyone know where this setting is in the Asus P5B Bios?

Thanks again

Ah. Set the DRAM Frequency to 400mhz, or 533mhz if that's the lowest it will go..

That should keep it at 1:1

Im just downloading the P5B manual now so will be back shortly to tell which setting to change

EDIT : Well its still not really clear after reading themanual - i dont see anywhere where you can opt to run the RAM 1:1

Best you can do is set it at 533, which in effect would be 1:1

Would that be in the DRAM frequency bit? I can only set to 500/625/750 etc in there & can't find where else to do it.

The manual is rubbish isn't it?

Thanks for the help

Well, thanks to the help on here, I finally got a decent overclock :D

Here's the current cpuz screens:

I know it hasn't reached its limits yet as I haven't had to adjust the vcore at all, but I'm taking it nice and slow.....

3Dmark06 score has gone from stock at 4408 to 4797 now - it was 3866 with my old 3700!

Thanks to the help on here, I am one happy bunny :D
