Oh Sachs.... Shut up!

I find Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle and Jim Jeffries funny so I think I do prefer edgy comedians, but Russell Brand I don't get. He's in America so he can stay there with that **** Gervais.

I'm not overly keen on Brand myself. But I can understand people enjoying him.

It just bugs me when people discuss comedy as if their opinion is right and others are wrong. It's basically the whole Daily Mail fiasco all over again!

What Sachs said is largely fair, Brand can be hit or miss - I never used to think he was at all funny but I watched a DVD of his standup and it was quite good in places, narcissistic and crude often but he is still an intelligent man.

Fair enough, but his statement, "I don't really understand why he won it after all those people complained," is just nonsense!

Why? I don't understand that either.

What have the orchestrated complaints about the prank call got to do with the award? The matter is in the past, been more than talked about, yet here he is digging it up again.

If they were orchestrated it wasn't by Sachs. I assume the award was for 'comedy' over the past year. Brand has had to resign due to his brand of comedy. Do you think that means he should be winning awards? It should automatically rule him out to be fair.

What's he after? A panto gig or something
I seriously doubt it.

It just bugs me when people discuss comedy as if their opinion is right and others are wrong.

In stark contrast it bugs me when people quote me sharing my opinion and get on their high horse about it, saying that just because I say it doesn't make it right. Of course it doesn't, that is just my perspective on it. Sachs has done the same thing, as have you. He's simply shared his opinion and you've lambasted it as if he's had a go at everyone that likes Brand.

Everyone that likes Brand deserves people having a go at them, but that's not what Sachs has done. Far from it. Stop being such a sensationalist :)

I don't think I've every found Russell Brand or Ricky Gervais funny.

Jim Jeffries

Winner.

I personally think Brand is horriffic but it is a shame that every time he does something that grabs peoples attention we will be reminded of this. I could voice opinions on the whole Sachs affair but people have done it to death, seems however that the papers are intent on bringing it back up. I'm not annoyed at Sachs comments, moreso the stupid journalism that seems to be becoming more of a standard recently where trivial issues suddenly matter to the nation. Surely there is something more interesting to be reported?

I think you're getting too much on Sachs here. This strikes me as blatantly the newspaper ringing him up for a reaction quote after Brand won the award. Nothing he's said was particularly bad, the paper just obviously wanted something vaguely controversial to sell copies.

You're probably right!

It's just his comment, "I don't really understand why he won it after all those people complained," that really bugged me...

Russell Brand does slightly amuse me from time to time, however I think with all the reality shows and realistic comedies the line between comedy characters and comedians has been blurred. I think if Russell Brand was a character that I knew was played by a decent comedian then he would seem to be a lot funnier it would be a clever character based on hopeless idiots who can get themselves into the limelight with zero talent. However I laugh at Brand, not with him.

An example (appropriately) Basil Fawlty is in my opinion a product of John Cleese's genius, however if I booked myself into a hotel and the manager was actually like Basil, he may amuse me for a while but deep down I'd be think that he was a right ****.

I hope that makes sense to you.

What is so hard to understand? Several thousand people complained about one of his acts of comedy, that would quite strongly suggest more than a large proportion of the country dislike his style of humour. Agree with that?

So if so many people dislike his style of humour it seems pretty odd that he won an award for doing something that people dislike

I don't see any idiocy there. Not unless you count the sensationalist headline, which was written by someone else. I don't see him saying anywhere that he is angry. Baffled is the strongest word he used.

exactly

also OP has no one ever peed you and your family off ? you tend not to like them from then on so getting angry at them is a common occurence

Groan... 0.05% of the population get rounded up by newspaper to wave their joyless ***** pitch forks around. Which leaves the other 99.95% of the population with two brain cells to rub togethor :)

No swearing

Gilly

Fair enough... But he contests the original matter was embarrassing, yet here he is stirring up the whole matter again.

Maybe next time, "no comment" would be the better response. Or, even better, how about.... "let's move on."

The moment you try throwing your value set or tastes onto others your in trouble.

Absolutely. For example, Andrew Sachs' granddaughter's style of hardcore pornography, is not my preferred style of hardcore pornography, but I don't go on about it.

TBH I think Russell Brand doesn't deserve any recognition as he's not a comedian he's not funny has no talent and the only reason people laugh when he's spouting his nonsense is because they're laughing at him and his wannabe winehouse haircut.

You can add JR to that comment. ;)
