Users want Google Earth.

They write the business case document.

It goes through customers approval process.

Gets signed off.

Gets examined and validated for their approved software list

We produce a quote

Quote gets signed off.

Work begins. Proof of concept. Pilot. User Acceptance testing. All published out via Citrix.

etc etc etc Literally months of time, scores of people, dozens of man-hours, thousands of pounds.

Finally, someone asks the users WHAT they want it for.

They ship things globally, and they want to see when their ships leave port.

Face meet palm.

I accept that the process contains many different facets, but I don't see why it should have taken months..

These requests are approved in scheduled meetings, you have to wait for the next meeting to make progress.

See in the wonderful world of Big IT it can take months to add a user to a group, and it would involve teams in as many as three different time zones.

They have in the last month finished the rollout of Windows 2003 Sp1 to the estate, starting last October.
