Oil change placebo?

No noticeable difference IMO
The trick to obtaining maximum placebo is to get yourself all grubby doing the change yourself.

By the time I've wrestled with the under tray, given myself oil drips up to my elbow and caused all sorts of oil based chaos to clear up I always fire up my wife's Polo and instantly think "oooh yeah, she's running SWEET"

Effort justification is a powerful phenomenon :p

I've just bought a new daily. It had a dealer service done 6k ago according to the stamps but the service indicator came on so I had it done just for piece of mind at a friend's garage.

Most garages don't like you taking your own parts but he knows I don't buy ebay crap so will fit parts I buy including fluids because I buy the manufacturer specified ones.

No noticeable difference IMO
Nothing wrong with parts from eBay? A lot of motor factors sell on eBay for less than direct on their own website. GSF and ECP are great examples of this.

TBH I tend to go to my mates' garage and let him do it, not because I can't but to support his business. Never ask for mate's rates (though I suspect I get them) & always give him a little extra when he's "squeezed me in" between jobs

Those would be ebay outlets of already established and reputable companies. I'm referring to the smaller ones who deal in parts made of chinesium.

Ah, yes. That fabled material known as Chinesium. The only metal known to man to be weaker and more brittle than plastic itself.

My trusted local mechanic doesn't mind if I supply the oil, I get him to supply the Filter and dispose of the oil though.
TBH disposing of the old oil is my biggest issue now.

I used to be able to just turn up at the local recycling centre and dump it in the tank. Now you need to book an appointment to visit the recycling centre (no joke) which makes it harder to just sling it in the car when I happen to be passing.

As an aside... Anyone want 12L of used Castrol Edge / Magnatec, collection only :p

Varies massively by area - you might find a neighbouring district still lets you just drive in and tip.

Place that does my MOT also does basic servicing and they have an oil fired furnace that's been adjust to burn engine oil. Furnace heats the all 12 units on the little estate they're in.

The owners of the other buildings all have their vehicles services there so they're contributing to the oil supply.
