Hi

Does anybody know anywhere in the west midlands that will do an oil change while you wait? I have recently picked up a Renault 5 gt turbo, i plan to service it my self from now on and keep all the receipts but oil changes on my drive way are something i would rather just pay somebody else to do not worth the hassle of getting covered in oil and then having to go and dispose of it.

Anybody know of any decent planes in the west midlands that can do a oil change while you wait?

Just take it into kwik fit if it's just an oil change... you can watch them do it, even them retards can't mess that up.

Roger Chetter body repairs in Wolverhampton (Pountney Street) will probably do this for you, ~£25 cash and bring your own parts/oil, ring in advance and they should be able to do it.

Used them before, very cheap as bodyshops go but fine with basic mechanic stuff as well and very cheap indeed.

yes they can, my idiot friend took her Porsche to Kwik fit, 15 miles down the road it caught fire in the engine bay, it was only in for an oil change!

They had left the cap off and spilt oil all over the engine

They can mess up anything. They could use the wrong oil or under/over fill it.

People told me "go to quickfit they cant mess a regas up, its all done by machine" came back to find I needed a new bonnet and aircon piping, where they forgot to remove the gas connector ford adaptor thingy they used, and shut the bonnet on top of it, damaging the lot. It was even "checked" and signed off by a second "engineer"

Do they still drive the car's onto ramps these days or do they have to push them on for health and safety? I believe my car has a paddle clutch its certainly upgraded and its like an on and off button, im slightly concerned of anybody pulling away in it whose never used such a clutch from fear of them launching it forwards.

An oil change is so basic that i honestly cannot imagine its worth the bother of even driving to a garage to get it done is it? The only reason i can see to get a garage to ever do this is to maintain a dealer service history which isnt a concern for you. If you just do it at home you dont have any worry over any aspect of it being done correctly, and would probably have it all finished by the time you'd even pulled up at the garage and they had got around to getting your car into their workshop.

Get some latex gloves and you wont even get dirty doing it

I also just use one of the vacuum pumps to remove oil on anything I'm not worried about keeping dealer history on. If you're worried about any residue remaining just do one in the summer properly and drop the sump plug

Exactly what i do with my cars these days. My cars also have the type of paper filters which just pop into a holder from the top after you unscrew the lid. You could do an oil change in your best suit using this method :p

If you have ramps it's dead easy to drain from the sump plug as you just drive onto them as opposed to faffing around with jacks and stands :)

I'd agree if you have a reasonably good drive or a garage to work in, and already had the required tools.... Not everyone has all of this though. For the sake of avoiding rolling around outside in the cold and wet at this time of year then getting it done for 25 quid then it's money well spent if you ask me :p

I am with the OP.

I can do pretty much anything in respect of regular maintenance and running repairs on my cars and bikes.
But I cant be arsed with lying on the floor, getting dirty, just cant be bothered full stop any more.

I'm not that unbothered that I would ever take a car to kwik fit mind, no chance.

Confused that you're suggesting servicing it yourself but taking a car for an oil change....
