Oil consumption and distance between max and min

Hi all,

Had the oil changed in my Accord back in May and when checking it on Sunday, the level was half way between the min and max mark on the dipstick. I believe it was at the max mark after the oil had been changed.

Is it normal for VTEC engines to consume a little oil? What "amount" of oil is the distance between min and max generally? Am I worrying over nothing?

I've done about 4.5-5k miles since it was changed.

I'm only curious because it contrasts with the MX-5 which uses absolutely no oil even given the amount of hoonage partaken with it

Id say you were worrying about nothing, thats going to be what, 250ml of oil in 5k?

The distance between max and min on all the Hondas i've owned has always been roughly a litre.

Max to min is typically a litre on most cars.

Less than half a litre oil usage over 4k miles is quite good for a Vtec!

It's not a high performance 8000RPM monster, just a normal single-cam VTEC-E or whatever

My HRV VTec goes through quite a bit of oil too. No mechanical faults, just likes drinking it.

My Accord uses hardly any oil, reminds me its been a few months since I last checked it

Was bout to say same, everyone i know thats had a honda has complained of it drinking oil.
