Iv always used sunflower oil for making popcorn but wondering if im missing out not using olive oil or coconut oil insted.
What do you guys suggest is best to use for popcorn?
I'm going to say no to olive oil as it's not really intended for frying because of its low smoke point, plus the flavour is stronger than regular veg or rape oil.
The milk solids are going to start to burn if you use it for the initial pop I would have thought? Although beurre noisette might give a nice taste to the popped corn! I thought the butter was added after the pop.
Sunflower or groundnut would be my suggestions, high smoking point and low neutral flavour. I like rapeseed but it does have a grassy taste which I like but probably not on my popcorn
