Oil level sensor replacement

Hi.
My oil level sensor in my sump was playing up.

So bought a genuine VW replacement double checked the part number all match up perfectly.

Went to fit the new sensor today the old came out so easy but I'm having trouble fitting the new one the sensor part that's goes up into the sump just won't go, doesn't seem to line up.

I'm confused as it's 100% the correct part any body else had this issue?

Mk5 golf GTi 2006.

It only goes in one way might have to wriggle it bit

I was trying that for well over an hour today :confused:

Wasn't playing ball. It's seems to stop when it's quarter of the way in for some reason.

Positive part numbers are identical every bit of the new part is identical to the old one.
