Hi all,

I am sure that most of you have seen the PC's running in oil instead of having conventional fans or water cooling.

Is this really an acceptable way of cooling?

Bro-in-law wants a new PC and wants it overclocked, never done it myself before so it is all new. I want to go with water cooling, he isn't fussed but asked me to look at this oil cooling.

Tbh, we used to have an old fashioned chip pan, the constant heating of the oil used to leave everything smelling quite nasty! Is this an issue with the oil PC's? Do you have to change the oil on occasion?

I haven't been able to find anything about anyone running a PC like this for long periods of time!

Don't do it.

It's fine for a bit of fun with a load of components that can be chucked after a while but not a practical solution in the slightest.

if you don't like the smell you can use baby oil but I would agree with those who said don't do it unless just for fun with messing about.

For example the baby oil one I contributed towards was something like a P3 with onboard gfx that was done as a proof of concept and not much more.

I wouldn't dream of dunking anything decent in there purely because once it's in, its covered in oil and there's sod all you can do to undo that.

i say go ahead and do it.....but just make sure you video the whole thing.
it can be quite funny watching clips like that.
