Oil Rush Anyone Playing it

Yo Tals! Yep, as you know I'm definitely in for this one. Reminds me of Eufloria. Tower defense-ish with a naval setting, what's not to love? I have a good feeling about this one. :)

If I could persuade you to get it i'd be willing to lay a risk on this one, I prefer to play against someone I know :)

I guarantee I'll be getting it at some point, just not sure when; my gaming budget has been blown for pretty much the rest of the year. :)

I'll work on tempting you, it looks good - I just need to be convinced that the possibility of comeback still exists, which I have posted on the forum. At the moment from the outside it looks like if you break 50% then it will become increasibgly if not impossible to come back - so interested if they have accounted for this

You've had good answers so far, too. As for tempting me, there's really no need for that - I'm already sold! Now I just have to convince my lady that I need the game. :D

OK well how about this, I promise you that as soon as you buy the game I will buy it - so so close to buying it as it is ......

Hahaha, wow Tals, of all the times I've tried to convince you to get a game, I've never heard that one before! I'm working on it, just need a bit more time... ;)

The game will be out on Linux too, rather splendidly. You can buy it on Desura, but I think it's cheaper to buy directly from the dev and they'll give you a Desura key anyway. \o/

It works out around £12.50 from the Dev and you get the Desura key and hopefully the steam key if they're allowed - would be a first if not :) It does tick the boxes for games I like :) The key works for the platforms (not sure re ps3) that the game will play on :)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention it's also on Mac. The PS3 release will require a separate key.

Tals and I are about to play some co-op against the AI while we learn how to play; I'll definitely post some impressions later. :)

OK my impressions first. Played a game with HUW first, port forward is on Pot 60070, for some reason Huw was able to host but I wasn't. Current host/join is relatively simple but hopefully when they bring steam into play this aspect will improve. We went for a 1v1, worked quite well - bases are split by unit type so you have sea/air/heavy sea/oil. Oil you cannot protect with towers the rest you can but it does mean oil is the easiest to take yet probably the most valuable. At the same time you have a skill tree that builds up as you gain xp where you can either improve units or add skills which are actionable - i.e sabotage enemy towers/scan enemy towers etc.

Huw won easily showing how terrible I am at the genre

Joop then joined and Huw left. Joop and I first played a 1v1 where he totally pwned me - tbh hopefully we can get some thoughts from Joop as it just seemed to click with him.

Second game Joop and I went against the AI but it was a big map, I was failing in my corner and the game was settling into a standoff when Joops game crashed.

Last game we went for a smaller map again 2v2 with Joop and I against the ai. Best map of the evening. We were closer together and managed to coordinate better. Good fun, till I see the campaign map won't be able to tell the longevity and till I get more experience won't be able to see if I can improve my tactics - though I have no doubt Huw and Joop will :)

Heh. I'm particularly pleased with my victory since Tals already knew how to play and he didn't explain the tech tree to me until halfway through the game. :p

Seriously though, it was really, really good fun. At first the game was a bit of a war of attrition, with Tals and I taking platforms from each other but being unable to defend them adequately. As the game progresses and you start to make use of the tech tree - not to mention increasing your unit cap by capturing boot camps - it really gets interesting. Particularly excellent is the ability to send 25%, 50% or 100% of a platform's fleet against another platform. It gets more strategic the longer you play.

Tals you'd better get some serious practise in before tomorrow night's session! ;)
