OJ Simpson book "If I Did It"

What an idiot to write this book. Obviously been leaked onto the internet and it takes you up to the event just before him killing his wife and her "friend" . Quite shocking he got away with this considering the heap load of evidence against him. He's basically admitted it but nothing can be done.

I was around 10 at the time of the trials and didn't really follow it at the time although I remember seeing it on tv a few times even at that age. How does he sleep at night knowing he got off with it.

Was also found guilty been liable of the deaths of the two at a civil suit which is weird.

I was under the impression that you can't be tried for the same crime twice in the British legal system (and the US one is heavily based on it). He could theoretically say what ever he wanted now, presumably?

you cant be tried twice in a criminal court iirc. civil is another matter i think. you can still be imprisioned by a civil court.

he is an idiot and shoudl be in prison anyway.

you cant be tried for the same crime twice, unless there is substantial new evidence

In england if a person is cleared of a crime but then new evidence is brought up, can they be retried again?

EDIT: I love wiki, I know all about it now. I remember seeing the trial on TV but I was pretty young at the time.

I think you can now. The law was changed not so long ago if I recall.

Very few law changes are enacted retroactively, so he would probably still be fine. And he's already been done for wrongful death and battery in a civil court and ordered to pay $33million.

That was a good change to our legal system I think, over riding Double Jeopardy in the light of new substancial evidence. I think it's stupid to be any other way.

I Can remember bits and peices of this case from the TV, but i was only about 10 at the time, so cant really remember much heh.

Ugh.. that virus is my end. ADS Plugins, spyonyou Enigma. Thought I got rid of that yesterday. It sends itself automatically through MSN so don't accept file transfers even from people you know unless you know exactly what it is. I was suspicious but I didn't really care too much as it's only the office computer.. serves me right.. :rolleyes:

Both paragraphs for me. Double Jeopardy is a good cornerstone of British justice, but now that a trial can be re-ordered for someone who was found not guilty of a crime when some new evidence comes to light can only be a good thing.

Aren't there some decent judicial safeguards on this? I think a fairly senior judge has to listen to the new evidence being presented and decide if a new trial is in the public interest.

I was also about 10/11 at the time of the murders so I have a little memory of this but not much.

I didn't think the book was actually written by OJ, he just had an interview with the guy who wrote it giving him a bit of background info for the story/some kind of input.

The books has been given to some relatives of the family of OJ wife and last I heard they were planning to release the book with the title changed to something like "confessions of a killer".

Either way, it's just a book detailing how OJ would have killed them if it was him. My understanding of that is the murders in the book will not match the details of the actual murders, since OJ is claiming he didn't do the real murders.

Either way, he did, he didn't, the book should have never been released as its in very bad taste imo.

Making profit from their deaths, especially when he was involved either way.

The guy sounds like a right ****.

It's the complete story of what happened and what lead up to him going over to the house and having more than an argument with them.
