Hey all, have:

e2140
4gb (2x2) ocz ram
gigabite p35c ds3r
700watt psu
8800gtx

I can set the FSB to 333, and get 2.66ghz out of cpu, everything else on auto, runs fine as anything. If I try to set manually, EXACTLY the settings chosen in auto, it doesnt post, if I set it to 334fsb in 'auto' mode it hangs in orhtos after 2 mins., temp is 26c idle, 40load

Can someone explain to me how gigabytes bios works and recommended settings, also whats this ctrl-f1 thing for allowing advanced ram timings settings, iv pressed it in the bios and on post screen and nothing happens, I want 3ghz out of this cpu darn nammit !  :D

Yeah you should get 3Ghz out of it.

Firstly speed memory running and are you putting it on a divider as when your raise the fsb its raises the memory speed also and its probably that which is stopping you from going any further.

The "CTRL & F1" function is to alter the memory timings.

To do this as as above hold in ctrl and press f1 at the same time, now when you go into MIT section you will see the extra options to alter the memory timings.

So you need to set your memory voltage accordingly, i think its at 1.8v as standard.

so set

cpu host clock control = enabled / manual
cpu host frequency = 375 (8 x 375 = 3000)
pci express frequency = 100
system memory multiplier = 2

system voltage control = manual
ddr over voltage control = normal (if 1.8v)
pcie over voltage control = +0.10
mch over voltage control = +0.10
fsb over voltage control = +0.10
cpu voltage control = 1.30 (if its stable could try lower and up it a little if unstable)

Also keep an eye on your temps

Well its a total NO GO, tried all your settings, tried them all with 0.2 where applicable. Tried those but lowering the CPU multi to 6x and 7x, no go, Ram timings set to the factory.

Then tried factory settings but with manual voltages all set to normal - no go

:(

It seems as soon as i put voltages on manual it wont boot, whats happening here?

any 1 ? :( anyone else have this mainboard and these cpu's ?

EDIT:

Found this on another forum:

The Gigabytes are known to have lots of problems when you have lots of things in the BIOS turned on that you don't need. Try turning off everything you don't need and continue to overclock.

Whats that mean ? there was no answer on that, I am using most of the features of the board with 7 hard drives, everything else is off, i.e. the audio chip is, eer thats about it, everything else is on, also running RAID............is this whats stopping me clocking ?

its not happenin, tried a 210mhz fsb, manual control, 0.3+ on the ram everything else on default, no go, does 200 (default) on this, does not at 201

However If I set everything to auto, and just set a 333 fsb, it does it fine  with a cpu speed of 2.66ghz

Why on earth setting manual control ruins it is beyond me, any input ? Is it because I have to many hard drives attached? iv disabled the onboard sata/ide controller, which has ment iv lost my cd drive of course. still the same effect. Iv disabled onboard sound, parallel ports/serial ports as well.

shall i try posting it with no drives at all attached ? how ridiculous would that be if it works

another point, the drives are setup in RAID.......would this effect it ?

What my problem is and why im annoyed is that in 'auto' on a 333fsb it works fine, no problems, if I match the settings exactly in manual voltage mode it doesnt post at all.............WHAT ON EARTH IS AUTO MODE DOING TO MAKE IT WORK ? Iv been overclocking for over 15 years, iv never seen a board behave like this :( , at the very least manual mode matched to auto mode; of course.....worked! but it doesnt here :S

EDIT:

Just put my 'usual' auto settings back and now it totally lost the bios settings and did a 'cold boot' thing as in all stuff reset
