Been using AOL since i was on 56k dial up which wasn't that long ago in this area :D but the last 2/3 months i have been downloading 'quite' a bit of stuff.

Now my connection is just terrible.... massive ping jitters and download speeds are all over the place, ive obviously been capped but my question is for how long?

If this is going to stay then i am going to have to cancel and i only just started a fresh 18month? contract with them about 3 months ago so that is gona sting me.
Anyone know how much that will cost? :(

for the capping, just ring them up and ask them to check the line as your having problems see what they say.

to get out i would imagine they'd ask for the rest of the contract to be paid.

Which package are you on? When I was on 8mbps 'unlimited' AOL after downloading > 60gb (their FUP) they limited me to 2mbps in the daytime and 512kbps in the evenings. It lasted until my next monthly billing date.

yup I reckon you'd be stung for rest of contract...
Speedy Pete, why AOL? They have a really bad rep you know. I'm sure another provider would be much better I'm really hard pushed to find a good word about AOL

Im on their unlimited package. pings and speeds seem fine now, i will have to see at on-peak hours today to see if it truly is a cap.

Paying for the rest of the contract out front! Looks like im stuck with them for quite some time in that case.

3dcandy: I have also heared bad things about AOL but in this small village i live in and the many years ive been with them, they have honestly been faultless.

Come to the conlusion it might jus be my SNR tweak thats not as stable as i first thought.
Here are my current line stats:
Upstream 448
Downstream 3904
SNR Margin(Upstream) 18.0
SNR Margin(Downstream) 9.3
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 31.5
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 60.0

I remember my SNR margin being down to 3 on my netgear DG384G and i didnt get the annoying ping jutters that i have now. So can i rule out that the SNR tweak is not the problem?
Also ive had the margin down to 5~6 with the current SNR tweak applied and all was fine.
The annoying thing is i cannot set the SNR back to -1 because for some reason it is stuck at 1 !
Anyone with a Billion 7800N care to explain how you are ment to get your SNR tweak restored? I have applied -1 - saved - restarted. Tried restoring to original settings and still it is stuck on 1 ! :(
