..... to 3.6 GHz, and im now running prime 95 small fft test. Now my question is how long will this test run for? Because im due to go out to a party in a fue hours. It seems stable and all apps and games ive run before test have worked great. Also my scores on WEI have improved. cpu up to 6.9 from 6.5, and my ram 2X 2gb kingston hyper X went from 6.8 to 7.1.

It will run until you stop it.
Congratulations on the overclock, are going to go for more? and have you been checking your temperatures?

I think this will be my limit with this cpu but ive got another build to start soon, run test for 2 and a half hours with no problems so will have to run longer in the week. Lets face it what other program would use my cpu at 100% for that time? oh well 1st time oc so far so good.

it still needs to be stable at 100% load, regardless of if you use it at that or not. You should be able to go higher than 3.6 as well. 4.0 - 4.2 shouldn't be too hard to get.

my friend says i should put all settings to auto on 3.6GHz, and all will be cool. Any tips what to set ram at? its kingston hyperx 1066. @ ricardox1 thanks for advice.

You will probably be fine with settings on auto but have you checked your temperatures?
2.5hrs prime does not necessarily mean the overclock is stable (although very unlikely not to be), I would suggest at least 6 hrs. Also check with Intel burn test and ideally ensure your CPU temp stays below 65 degrees c under load.
Lastly you should test you memory with something like Memtest86 or a Prime blend test.
All the utilities you may need can be found here
If you post some information about your motherboard someone is sure you be able to provide some tips on BIOS settings

@ luffy Thanks for input so far my temps after a fue hours of test are hovering between 57c and 58c the highest its been at was 59c, but only for a split second. my core volt is 1.870 not sure if this can be improved.

could a more advanced overclocker give some advice how to reduce volt to reduce temps, curently at 60c and while its not too high would like to reduce temp as much as posible. Thanks;)

I run prime 95 small fft test for over 4 hours but cpu started to reach 64c so i stoped it. Please could someone give me tips to reduce heat and lower temps?

OK what i would do is this, turn off intel speedstep.

Take all the volts off auto and manually set them.

cpu - 1.2v
Nb - 1.2v/1.3v
Vtt - 1.2/1.3v
SB - put it to the lowest it will go to.
Memory depending on if they need more volts 2.1v, or keep at 1.8v if they are fine at that. Check manufacture details

Give that a try

Really, if using the stock cooler, you want to be staying at stock volts or below in my opinion to ensure the temps stay low(er).

Surely this is a mistake, right? 1.87v?!
If so, drop it asap!
I was hoping it was a typo mistake on his part...1.87v is definitely not healthy for his CPU or would even burn a hole into it with a stock cooler...

E8400 is a very overclockable CPU...it should not require beyond 1.5v for overclocking to 3.6Ghz...
