Hey

So after having many months of black screen issues with my 2 Ref Saf's 290s i am finally had it and going to sell them and get rid of this crap epilda memory. I have black screens just in windows 10-15 mins in every game i play for the last 8 months. i have tried everything and everything and only got them overclocked to 1100/1400. If i apply to much MV and stutters really badly in crossfire etc i have tried different drivers and different overclock tools and still the same

My Question is can anyone recommend me 2x 290x without this eplida memory?

Do they work fine non-overclocked? If so then there's not a chance you could RMA them as you'll just get them back as well as a testing fee. Have you tried them individually?

the problem i have got is that i have put waterblocks on them so got no chance of returning them. :( i have a really odd problem also if i raise the Voltage in Trixx more than 100 it just stutters really badly and FPS just jumps about in crossfire.

So you are going to sell faulty card(s) to some unsuspecting guy? Unless they are fine when not overclocked. I wouldn't have thought you would need a big OC and 2 of those anyway tbh

Out of interest have you disabled ulps?

"Radeon Sapphire R290x 1150/1450"

You have the same problem as my 290x. The Elpida memory are may be duff for high overclocking, but with a pair of 290x in crossfire, I think even with the memory clock at just 1375MHz (comparing to stock clock 1250MHz), it would still be plenty fast enough.

Have a look at this:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18605468

The difference between the memory clock at the stock clock 1250MHz vs 1600MHz with the core clock at 1200MHz is only around 3% difference, and it's only 1-2fps difference on the minimum frame rate. I hardly think it's worth the hassle or the loss you would make on selling the cards.

I ain't happy with my 290x which the memory clock only hitting 1375MHz stable, but I keep reminding myself that it doesn't really make THAT much of a different in actual performance when gaming.

Agreed.

If it was me, I'd probably even ran them at stock clock undervolted :P

RMA them. Take a video with your phone, post it to YouTube and send that as evidence in the Customer Services thread (assuming you bought them from OCUK)

If you want to play the memory ic lottery and win then you have one option on a 290x...MSI lightning as it has samsung ic's and a badass power setup just for the memory.

Its more a bandwidth thing, higher the bandwidth at high res the better. I wouldn't think clocking memory at 1080/1200 and below would offer any great benefit outside of synthetic benchmarks. Certainly at 4k it helps as you often see the 512bit cards pull away from the 384bit ones

There not faulty my cards.. they don't black screen when running stock. i had them at 1150/1450 for a while and it was non stop black screens crashing etc. if i run them stock they are fine. see the other thing is even if i sell them i would be lucky to get 400 each the a cards..

Can people post there setting for Trixx. I am running a asus bios on both cards 1100/1350 now VDDC offset at 50. In setting i have Disable ULPS in settings and also synchronize cards in multi GPU Config

What would you recommend ? MSI AB, GPU Tweek, or TRIXX ?

Why not just leave the memory at stock or close to it? The gains below 1600P are small anyway. Just push that core up.
