I wanted to go for a Acer Aspire 7520, but forked out £40 extra and opted for an 7720Z which has 2gb ram (1gb more than 7520), 160gb hard drive (80gb more than 7520)...

All for a tidy sum of £338.99...

Also comes with a built in 0.3mp webcam, which the 7520 does not have.

So the specs:
CPU: Dual Core T2310 1.46GHz
Screen: 17 inch
RAM: 2GB
OS: Vista

To be honest there are probably better systems out there for that price, but I chose this specifically for bigger screen.

The CPU worries me a but, 1.4Ghz doesn't sound like a lot, am I missing something here? Because the cheaper model had a AMD 64x2 Dual Core TK55 1.8GHz cpu

I was wondering will I be better off on XP, rather than Vista??

Cool, thanks guys. I should receive it tomorrow and very eager to test it out.

I'm inclined to install xp because I'm more familiar with it, and the current set up I have now will take me weeks if not months to tranfer to a another computer with an OS.

My plan is to give it a dry run, check if I'm completely happy with it. And then reformat the drive, and use a software to copy my desktop C: partition on a USB drive and then from the USB drive onto the laptop..

If it all works out I won't even need to touch my desktop ever again.

It's going to be amazing being able to surf at a starbucks or bookshop, I've never owned a laptop before, so it's all new to me :)

bought the laptop

much bigger than I bargained for, I took the advice of a friend who told me a 17 incher is the minimum to go for, and I listhened to his advice, this damn thing is HUGE!!

The 17 inch widescreen is about the same width as as my 19 inch 4:3, and I don't even use the extra width..

This is a great machine, a bit heavy, a bit unstylish, but very functional and cheap.

battry life isn't great, but you wouldn't really use a 17 incher away from a desk/power source so really.. the battery life doesn't matter too much.

Had a good surf in my library, living room, need to test out starbucks!!!

The case is very boring, I'm going to personalise it, as soon as I find a supplier who sells laptop skins for 17 inch laptops.
