OK so when I try to open any folder or My Computer, my PC just freezes. I can access what is in them by going start>my documents>music> etc.. and clicking on the files but I can't even right click the folder through the start menu and "open" the folder.

When it does this I have to end explorer.exe and "new task" explorer.exe through task manager.

I have done Adware scans using Adaware SE and virus scans using Norton.

Any fixes please?

Norton's crap.

Try removing any other connections from the back of your pc, just have the monitor, keyboard, mouse connected. If it still does it, i'd try and sfc scan. If its still being an arse, i'd do a windows overlay.

If I were you I'd get rid of Norton. I had it for a year and then it started to give me problems. Go for AVG instead.

Ill just agree with the others really, Norton SUCKS.

Maybe try Nod32? ClamAV(win version), or maybe Kaspersky? That was probably the best i used.

Casmeister.

I'm not sure how to boot into safe mode as it goes too fast for my eyes at startup :P. My PC is just a medion and the motherboard is a "MSI MS-7091 (Medion OEM)"

Note: This is a family PC and uninstalling Norton for a different AV is not an option (They dont know anything about computers).

Problem there in safe mode?

Agreed, try booting up in safe mode to see if the problem persists ( Press F8 on boot up ). Do you have system restore turned on? If so maybe you could restore your system to an old reliable working point.

Download the free Trial of NOD32 here... http://www.eset.com/download/index.php

Give that a wiz see if it picks anything up. Your only other bet if it continues is to do a windows recovery install.
