right last month i was surfing net then my firewall flicked off very quickly and i seen it pop back on so i scanned with antivirus (all up to date ) avg free and it starting picking up viruses. this was very wierd cause this pc is just a gaming machine and dont do anything than game on it. so no dodgy sites or files. in end i wiped the drive and installed windows a fresh.

right....last night me and two other friends go to launch cod game and we all get a warning at same time of a virus (not actually connected to a server or in the game just as we loaded up the game.

the warning was tr crypt.zpack.gen in pb so we denyed it. weird how we all got at same time !

anyways we came out of game tried to launch a cod game and everytime you would get same message.even though we denied it.

we then started scanning and it was on our pcs :mad:to cut along story short i got it all off mine but a friend hasnt totally yet.

we were using avira antivius at the time. how can i see the event or time to do with when this coincided. thing is we dont swop files between our selves and only thing we do on thses pcs is game. wondering if some nab had hacked his way through our firewall or something.

in the end malware bytes got rid of it but avira couldnt totally.

anyone got any ideas on how it came about to get on our pcs and any chance of finding its origin?

any ideas pls.

Do you keep your OS bang up to date?

MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP3

It seems not  The first thing you need to do is update IE.

Wikipedia said:
As of January 10, 2009, Secunia reports 142 vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer 6, 22 of which are unpatched, some of which are rated moderately critical in severityhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_6#cite_note-7.

Are you that far behind on the rest of your Windows updates as well?

no updates available on xp service 3 reason i never installed later ie was cause i reinstalled windows about 4 or 5 weeks aog and went straight on firefox.

will update to latest now.

no im on norton at moment . everything is now upto date, windows wise.antivirus.

its the way it got through and the fact we all got it at same time identical .

we were all on avira premium antivirus at the time.which is supposed to be good.but it couldnt get it all out.so i removed it.
