Ok to run SSD drives and fans off same Sata cable?

Sorry for the potentially noob/stupid question.

I have a fractal define R5 case that has 3x 140mm fans connected to the built in fan controller. To make things cleaner I can get away with using just 1 sata chain cable which will have 2 SSD drives and the fan controller plugged in. Is this ok or will I risk the fans damaging the SSD drives?

thanks.

Hi Harbz

No question is stupid if your seeking an answer, it would be more stupid to go on wondering without asking.

I can't speak for others on the forum but I see no problem with what you want to do.
Fans and SSD's don't draw a huge amount of power and so long as you have a decent quality power supply you shouldn't have any problems.

Fans use 12V and I don't think SSDs even use that rail to anything...
All specs I've seen show SSDs using only 5V.

What if the fan control does the 7v and uses both the 12 and 5 volt rails, any risk then?

As long as you have a good PSU then you'll be absolutely fine. I run a pump, 8 fans, 2 lights, 1 HDD, one soundcard and one lcd temp monitor off of a single molex chain.

The fans will put noise on the cable. Other than that, you're fine. You won't notice the noise unless you're an audiophile with an expensive setup, and you play audio off a drive on that cable chain, at which point you should be running a passive system anyways, as audiophiles who are PC audio enthusiasts do. :)

It's fine.
