OK whats the best res 1080i or 720p For the 360?

yeah i think i read it actually upscales to 1080i?? not sure though

It does render all in 720 and scales accordingly for whatever resolution you choose.

Though I've not tried HD outputs, I think 720p is an overall better mode to run in due to it being native, and it being progressive scan too, from what I've read anyway, but I'm not an expert.

What he said. Running at 1080i could quite possibly reduce image quality beyond the scaling due to it being interlaced.

I have tried all 3 modes on my 40" HD LCD. 1080i produces sharpest picture imo. I don't understand why. it just does.

The Xbox 360 probably upscales the image better than your TV (which at that size is prolly quite high res). You might notice slight blurring of fast moving objects though.

Doesnt interlace mean the TV draws lines 1 3 5 7 etc in the first frame then it draws 2 4 6 8 etc etc in the second frame, but so fast u cant tell(on CRT's this would flicker). So you do get higher rez but not at the same cost as progressive, because the xbox only needs to render half the screen each frame instead of the full 1080?.

better in 720p

i have tried all 3 rsolutions and i find that 720p is the best if u play a game like quake 4 in 1080i u can see the interlacing having an effect when u move everything has lines around the edges were as in 720p there are no interlaced lines also the xbox 360 can only render fSAA in 720p or lower as the onboard 10mb edram ( i think thats what the mem is ) is not enough to be able render at 1080i and use fsaa

Thats right, but the framerate is 60fps. So that means the effective framerate is actually 30fps (full frame displayed every 2 frames). If you find 30fps is difficult to play with, you'll notice minor blurring. Apparantly a lot of people found it worse watching the Olympics in the states in HD than SD because they were broadcasting at 1080i (because of the fast moving balls, etc.).
