never really questioned it and just entered address and away i went, but of late i need to use it on my Vespa, and i can't go on motorways, anyone know how you can filter them out? or customise your route prior to going? i had a little play, but it just seems to allow you to avoid major roads, but cant see to work out if that means just motorways

I've used it and have travelled the circumference in miles of the Earth!

Anyway, what you need to do is this:

1: Punch in a destination
2: Once a route is found and ready, click the cogs icon on the overview screen.
3: Tick Avoid Main Roads.

It will recalculate a new route avoiding motorways.

If you navigate via Maps and not Navigation in teh first instance, the process is exactly the same via teh settings (cogs) button.

I haven't tried this, but you should be able to put together a route on a desktop/laptop then send the URL to your phone (email, Chrome-to-phone et al) and it should open up the route in the maps app.

i was not sure if 'avoid main roads' would avoid popular A roads as well, what i don't want to do, just motorways when using my Vespa instead of my car

Or, just tick the avoid box :p

Yeah, but if you wanted to plot a complex route with multiple stops it might be easier on the desktop browser :)

they should call it avoid motorways lol

and you need chrome to phone to send a created route then? not built in any other way?

No, you should just be able to copy and paste the URL into an email or via a similar method.
Not tried sending routes by this method though :)

I'm avoiding Motorways on my Chopper & the above works, Just tick the Avoid main routes box under the destination box, It's been great fun learning the A & B roads around my manor but take a map with ya because there are loads of small towns you go by & it does get confusing, I stop & use the map just to plot where I am in my head if you get me.

iirc you can use google maps on the pc (for when it's complex etc..." and chrome-to-phone to send the route to the app.

You don't have to use chrome to phone or firefox to phone. Just manually customise your route in the browser then click "Send link" and choose email and email yourself the link. This way you have a brief overview in your inbox anyway and a hyperlink to the destination which, when clicked on the phone, loads up in Google Nav.
