OK WTF IS WRONG WITH GEIL!!!

I just had it do the most retarded error on me I have seen in my life. I started a game called Max Payne. Then all crashed. Then blue screen. All it displayed on the blue screen is two lines.

So I was like WTF. Anyway reset, go into bios. Went to PC Health Status and I find something that completely baffles me.

DDR18V FAIL

it had some other stuff like 3.3V PASS and CPU something or other pass but DDR18V FAIL. I am seriously going to take a sledgehammer to this RAM. The only thing stopping me is I haven't got a replacement set. Its not even overclocked anymore!!
 
does crucial overclock well? also does anyone know what DDR18V is. all I know is mine failed it. Its under PC health status on Bios. (Gigabyte DS3)

Gigabyte board? 'DDR1.8V FAIL' is normal when you increase the vdimm. It doesn't actually mean that your memory has failed.
 
oh right. its does bug me why Geil advertise the memory at 2.1V 4-4-4-12 timings when it clearly CANNOT handle anything NEAR that!!! mine isn't even happy at 5-5-5-18!!

Mines fine at 440 @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.15V.

It could be your mobo or it could be the ram...
 
I did go onto Gigabytes website and found a list of supported RAMs. Geil was on there but not the 1GB PC26400 nor the 2GB. They had some PC2-5300s on it but many people are running DS3s with PC26400 modules.

We build systems using the GeIL and those systems are overclocked. We normally ship them all out set at 450MHz (900MHz DDR2), 4-4-4-12 with 2.1-2.2v.

We are using mainly Abit and Intel motherboards.

The GeIL is exceptional RAM for the money as its normally a fair bit cheaper than other brands.

If I was to summarise the best modules in the £60-£130+VAT range it would be:-

1. Team RAM 6400 4-4-4-10 (1000MHz - 1200MHz @ CAS4)
2. Crucial 10th Anniversary (No longer available) (1000MHz-1200MHz @ CAS4)
3. Crucial Ballistic 8500/6400/5300 (950-1100MHz @ CAS4) Gets 3rd place due to great pricing!!
4. G.Skill HZ PC6400 Series (1000MHz - 1100MHz @ CAS4)
5. Cellshock 6400 series (CAS4) (1000MHz-1100MHz @ CAS4)
6. OCZ Reaper series (8500, 9200 and soon to be released 6400) (900-1050MHz @ CAS4)
7. OCZ SLi series (8500 & 6400 1T) (900-1000MHz @ CAS4)
8. GeIL Ultra CAS4 6400 series (900-1000MHz @ CAS4, some sticks do seem capable of more as I got 1150MHz CAS4 yonks ago)
9. OCZ Rev2 CAS4 6400 series (850-950MHz @ CAS4)
10. Corsair Dominator 6400 (850-950MHz @ CAS4)
11. Corsair XMS2 6400C4 (850-950MHz @ CAS4)
12. OcUK PC2-6400 (800-850MHz @ CAS4)


Thats how I'd rate the RAM, we sell it all and make good margin on it all so I am not too fussed as what you guys buy. Obviously those speeds are all based on running 4-4-4-12 timings, if you slacken those down to 5-5-5-15 then yes you will hit even higher speeds.

GeIL RAM still remains our number one selling memory as generally they always have the best value package and in reviews and for general end-users always tend to overclock well, frequently out-clocking the much more expensive Corsair XMS2 and Dominator 6400 options which does indeed make the GeIL great value.

However at the moment Crucial Ballistix is really the best buy, they consistently overclock fantastic and the prices we have on Crucial embarrash our competitors and other manufacturers.

GeIL will be making a come back this week to compete with Crucial with a storming bargain and OCZ keep pushing hard and it shows in the 8500 and higher speeds as they have some fantastic packages at great prices. :)
 
I still don't understand why mine behaves the way it does. OCd it doesnt like anything, underclocked it doesnt like it, stock it doesnt like it???? so how am I supposed to find a sweet spot?

my ram is the same, if i set it to the recommended 2.1v, it crashes and wont boot till i reset cmos and run it at 1.8v.

Currently running at 399mhz DDR, and wont do the 4-4-4 its rated, instead it will only do 5-5-5-18 and crashes and needs a reset (my bios battery is under my graphics card so is a pain to reset).

However i cant afford to replace it so im due to buy another kit to make 4gb.

Team Elite kits are not bad at all ( but chips are not Micron)
just can´t overclock as high as Team Extreem :)
Team Extreem uses Micron chip´s :D

it does run at 1.8V 5-5-5-18 400mhz OK. but it won't run at its rated setttings no matter what. I Have found however, it doesnt mind been clocked higher in speed but try and tighten the timings and its back to its old tricks again :rolleyes:

I would RMA it if only I didn't need a computer badly right now through A Levels plus the time in getting another pair and dealing with the RMA

it needs 2.1V dude (thats +3 on a DS3/4)
 
i know it does. I've had it on that all the time. I've even tried +0.4V and still same crap. i don't really want to try anymore since the numbers after that flash in red lol
