Okay to put photos in Excel?

I tried copying and pasting a photo into an Excel sheet, saved file, and reopened = no problems. I don’t know if Excel is designed to allow this. Not wanting to put a lot of work into a file (a combo of text and photos) for it to corrupt on me later.
