Anybody think these will become likely sometime in the future? 50 odd inches of organic LCD film lining the car and a small camera on the bonnet, would lead to some funky looking car designs and insane feild of vision!!

EDIT/ i think i mean POLCD (Polymer-organic lcd?) as opposed to purely OLCD

No idea m8 tis why im interested, firstly styling, cars without windows might be funky. Secondly field of view ie no blind spots, picture in picture for mirrors and maybe ICE too. As for depth of vision im not sure how its affected by it being an image but if the camera was high def enough im sure it would be fine. Safety? No glass and the ability to make the interior a giant airbag etc.... many possibilities

Well i think a wiper washer system would probably be standard m8....lol

I would think so, but considering the size of lens' it would have to be a good system, you only need a small speck of dirt to cover most of a lens. I guess that would come with the technology though.

well look at mobile phone cameras, mine gets caked up with dirt all the time and still works so really needs to be dirty to not work at all. Also for the sake of safety i would envision the image being made up of a composite of camera images not just the feed from one so if a big bug happens toi hit the camera you wouldnt go blind.

Surely this would never be allowed, what if it failed at 100mph?
And what if the world ended or your eyes fell out at 100mph? i imagine there would need to be many failsafes and backups and at least one manual method for total failures.

Not to mention glare from the sun! :p
Filters would reduce glare in fact, better than any windscreen or sun visor!

Its intorducing an electronic barrier between yourself and the road ahead, no matter how good the tech i couldnt see it being really of any use.

You could use it as well as a real windscreen though, on the pillars etc to create a virtual link between the side window and the front. Now that would be useful and cool :)

Or since POLED is trasparent you could maybe have images WITHIN the windscreen itself a la the see through star trek style screens gps could highlight signs enhance aspects zoom in with certain areas of the windscreen, display figures etc and if it failed or anything you would just have a plain windscreen, the pillars idea is good although remember without ANY glass windows a car would be very structurally sound crashes would be far more survivable
