Hi All,

This is my first thread on here, and I have a question:

I am looking at upgrading my old 8800gts to a new card, but I want to run 3 screens. Should I:

a) put another geforce card in ie 460gtx and use the old card to run the two outside screens?
or,
b) buy a new ati card with eyefinity and go down that route?
or,
c) do you guys have a better idea?

How will using a dx10 and a dx11 card in the same machine work? (if at all)

I dont want to go crazy on the cost of the card as I have built my computer on a budget as below:

Coolermaster 430 case
Asus Striker II extreme
QX9650
4gb ocz Reaper X 13333 ram
Asus triton 79 cpu cooler
1 TB spinpoint F3 hdd
OCZ 700w PSU
LG dvd drive.
8800 gts 640mb (my old one i've used to get the rig going)

Total spend so far £320.00 or there abouts.

So I would like to get something that works well with my system and doesnt cost the earth preferably around £150 or so.

I dont do a huge amount of gaming, I mostly used my xbox or ps3 for that, but on the occasion I like to get the desktop running with one, I'd like it to perform.

Many thanks in advance.
:)

If you've only got £150 to spend then eyefinity is really out of the question to be honest.

I'd suggest either a AMD 6870 such as this, it comes with 2 free games as well which is a bonus!

Or if you want to stay with Nvidia then have a look at the cheap GTX 470s Overclockers have at the moment. They're slightly faster than the 6870 but don't come with any games and only have a 1 year warranty - link.

Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to use your current card for Nvidia surround (3 monitors) as you need two identical cards in SLi to perform this task.

You can do eyefinity with a single 6870 but using only one of these would stretch it to the limits, ie low frames per second on any of the newer game titles.

See here for a comparison between the 6870 and 470 :)

Sorry I forgot to mention, I probably wont be gaming on all three screens jus tthe middle one, but in the future I may invest in 3 identical screens.

:-)

Many thanks for the help here, 2gb 9650 ordered. I stretched my limits just a tad, but I figure its a little bit of future proofing, even if I decide to change rig in the next year or so. Looking forward to getting it installed :-)
