Hello,

I am trying to get an old VB based application to work under XP.

I made a thread in the programming forum but have resolved that issue and now my problem is that the application is unable to see the security dongle (connected to LPT1/Parallel) under XP.

Do you have any ideas as to why this problem exists?

The other option I would like to try is run a Virtual Machine of the existing 98 install under XP. How would I go about making a virtual image of the exisiting install?

Thanks in advance,

Very fustrated, hair torn out, Chris.

if you already have windows 98 on an existing partiton or hdd, you can setup vmware to use that partition/hdd instead of using an image, I sure the same can be siad for a few programs, but I only use vmware. It can cause a mess of your drivers within windows as you will need to install the vm drivers, so mutliple hardware configuration is recommend if your planning to use the install as a standalone.

To create the image - just boot it up to windows and take a snapshot of the VM, that will create an image of an exisiting install. I sure this is not the best way of doing it, but it will work - I not needed to do it myself.

I played with VMware converter and couldnt get it to run on 98 or access it via the network.

I have come up with a better solution of having a standalone computer for this VB software running win98 and using their existing laptop for everything else.

Just have to setup the 98 machine as a print server so the laptop can share the printer...
