Old car - what to do?

So my 09-reg Aygo decided to pop it’s fanbelt the other night
It’s been grumbling for a few days as either the air-con, water-pump (if it’s driven by the fanbelt) or alternator have failing bearings and kinda last straw.

Anyway it’s sat on my drive and I’ve bought another car - this was planned anyway

Query is what to do with the Aygo - theoretically belt is a cheap fix but then gotta figure out what else has failed.
Just want shot of it for a couple hundred

Can you afford to fix it? Or replace it? Water pump is best replaced with the belt anyway. They're simple cars and won't cost a lot to fix.

I see you already have a second car. If you have no need of it then scrap it or ebay.

I'd fix it and sell it - shouldn't be too expensive to sort out. Or if you can't be bothered, just put it on ebay for spares or repairs, you'll get more than a couple of hundred.

+1, agreed, you will get plenty of interest in it for parts.

I'd find out exactly what needs doing and if viable, taking into account strong used car prices at the moment, get it fixed and sell it as a cheap runabout.

get a quote to get it fixed
then decide what you want to do
but my advice is, say you get £200 as it is now as scrap, then cost of repairs is £1000 for example. get it fixed, clean it up and sell it for a bit more than 1200

Depending on mileage/service history/condition etc - that's a £2-3k car - and you want to sell it for £200 because it needs an auxiliary belt and maybe a tensioner. To do the belt, it's £20 in parts and 1 hours labour. To do the tensioner it is likely another £20 in parts and 0.5 hours in labour. I'd be disappointed if the bill at a mechanics was more than £130.

If you're set upon selling your car for £200 - FB marketplace and someone will snap your hand off and make themselves ~£2k in the process.

EDIT: Or call this guy. A mobile mechanic in Newbury (assuming you're there or thereabouts) https://www.rhmotive.co.uk/

Get him to diagnose and give you a quote.

It's a small car, normally in demand for first time drivers who've just passed their test. Get it fixed and it's easily worth £2k

Autotrader reports part ex for it is around £240

Can’t see any on Autotrader for similar mileage (130k!)

Part ex is normally terrible, but part ex on something like this is going to be particularly bad because of its age/mileage/type of vehicle/faults with it. You've got to play to the strengths of your car - this is a FB marketplace jobby for £1500 when repaired

Google recycling services. EMR will give you £~130 for it collected. Prices have gone down a bit disappointingly, I got shot of an 53 plate accord for £750 last year!
