Hi,

I have a gigabyte R9 270X gpu that recently failed. I have a gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H motherboard that has a single 16x PCIe 3.0 port.

Would anybody be able to recommend a replacement that would be around £100? 2nd hand is fine too. I was wondering if there was a similar generation card suitable for the motherboard that would perhaps even provide an upgrade on a budget.

Thanks for your help.

Take a look here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/gpu-hierarchy.18951645/ as it will give you a rough idea how your current card stacks up against other cards both new and used.

With your budget you would be best looking second hand, and the minimum sort of cards I would look for that will be in budget include:
Geforce 1060 6GB
Geforce 1660, 1660 Super, or 1660Ti
Radeon RX570 or RX580 8GB

Maybe something like a GTX 1650. Performance isn't spectacular, but it has no PCI-E lane limitations and power usage is very modest.

Alternatively: GTX 1660 (though that would likely be over budget). 1070 is another option, but they can be 7 years old at this point.

There's not really any decent options near £100 if it has to be brand new, except for the RX 6400/6500, which while being decent performers for the money, prefer PCI-E 4.0.

Arc A380 would have been an option, but Arc usually performs very badly without rebar.

As above but try and get the super versions as they are faster than the standard one. Assuming you can still buy the super versions or did they make the 1650 you buy now the super version ?
Take it or leave it but the Steam server still has the 1650 as the most popular card amongst its survey of users that opt in to it.

if you shop around 2nd hand 1660 Super or Ti can be had for £100 on FB market etc, i've also seen 2060's sell for around £120 used, if you have a decent power supply unit, consider the 5700xt or the 6600

also, what resolution do you want to game at?
that won't change what you can buy within budget but it might help set expectations
