Old computer cables - can they be recycled?

I've a mass of cables that are no longer required - it seems a shame to just lob them in the bin!

You could put them up in the MM and ask for postage or pickup.
And you know what happens the day you dump them? yep you need that old cable :D

Hmm, old bloke next door took 3 full bin bags off me when he saw me chucking them out and reckons his son makes money recycling old cables.

i tend to hold onto all my old comp cables since i never know when i might need one or some one i know gets giving a comp stripped out of ide cables etc and asks me to fix it.

I just never know when they will come in handy :)

you could mail me some sata-2 cables if you are throwing any of them out :p

The copper could be re-used, but unless you strip the cables yourself I don't think you can save them from the landfill.... :/

I find old molex cables make great speaker wire and low voltage power cable.... The connectors are pretty useful also.

i've got loads of old cables. Well, about 4 boxes full of em. Just store them somewhere.

The other month I threw out some old cables (paralell cables) that I'd had for about 15 years and then about a week later realised I could have done with them actually, as i bought a couple of LCD units of ebay that required connecting to the paralell port. So dont throw them out.

Also, Old IDE cables make excellent wires for soldering chip pins and things like that. (if you need to do multiple pins, just leave the cable joined for a neat finish)

But, IEC style power cables what to do with them? I must have about 30 of the things in a bag.
