Hi. My old hand me down PC which I passed onto the folks, 2003 build, is now acting up and I can't work out the problem. The spec: athlon 2600XP, ATI x800, 2 sticks of 512MB DDR RAM, Abit NF7 Mobo, Win XP.

The problem is that after about 5-10mins the computer just freezes. I've tried each stick of ram one at a time, it still happens. I hooked up the hard drive to my computer, no bad sectors and ran fine. I put the HD back in and started installed Win 7 onto the hard drive. It starts to install but still freezes. So I don't think it's a software issue if I don't boot to XP and it still freezes. When it does freeze the red light on the mouse (USB) goes out. I suspect it's a problem on the motherboard?

Thanks for any help.

Forgot to mention that I bought a new PSU for it, so I'm thinking your right about the capacitor on the mobo. I'll see if I can pick up a socket A mobo on eBay and get the old thing running again.
