Hi Folks,

Been trying to find ram for a asustek b85m-e motherboard. I've a friend in the UK struggling with their PC and want to help them if i could. What i'd like to do is get 2x 8GB sticks so that the machine makes full use of the dual channel as right now its running basic speed memory in single channel.
I've been trying to find a reliable source of components based on the QVL from Asustek site (https://images10.newegg.com/UploadF...nce/ASUS/B85_series_DRAM_QVL1401383204614.pdf)

Doesn't have to be the fastest speed but would for sure like to get 16GB of memory for the guy as the single 8gb stick is struggling with the games he's currently playing. I'm hoping if anyone here can point me in the right direction that'd be awesome.
My friend lives in the UK and has zero knowledge of computers, hence never getting the needed upgrades before they got discontinued haha.

Regards
Steo

What I'd do is put the board into Crucial and Kingston's configurators, copy the part numbers and then see if you can find them at decent prices.

I'd also do a google search of the board and the part number before you buy, just to make sure there are no known problems.

The QVL on that board would have been pretty terrible(In regards to it being updated frequently) as Asus used to only do a QVL for a board at the time the board was released and didn't update. Like the previous poster said use the Crucial/Kingston/Corsair configurators and you should get some memory that they have tested in those boards. The best you will probably get is 1600mhz although there is 1866 and 2133 in DDR3 the likelyhood that will be compatible is very low.

On most of the configurators you will probably find they are noted as EOL/Discontinued. Just bang the part number into google and you will probably find some in stock somewhere or second hand.

Hope that helps.
