Well i've got this old PC to fix up (Athlon 1700+), best way to go about this is to install Linux (obviously ) but i've run into a few problems. After trying my many disks here's what i found:
So what i decided to try and do was get Mint on there, since the hardware can handle it and it's so much easier to use than the others. So i've installed it through the Live CD several times, and every time, even with different hard drives, when it's powered up after installing it POSTs, then gives me a blinking cursor in the top left corner. No GRUB, nothing. Anybody have any ideas?
I'm hoping it's not a hardware problem, but it probably is. Might help too - the initial problem was that Windows XP would load somewhat, then get to a point where it said something about a password being incorrect or changed and go back then get itself stuck in a loop. It would do this in normal and safe mode.
Thanks a lot
- Puppy Linux 4.3.1 boots, works fine
- Slitaz 3.0 doesn't boot, gets stuck at loading PCI Kernel Modules
- Linux Mint 9 only boots in Compatibility Mode, with Gnome running in low graphics mode
- Ubuntu 10.10 kinda booted when i modified the boot line to include what made it into compatibility mode (why did they take it off anyway), but the mouse wouldn't work.
