old full tower server chassis (to mod)

15 years ago - damn, i would have been 5 or 6 lol.

could anyone advise me on how to attach the lian li PSU plate to my case?
the screw holes don't line up but because of the way it lines up i won't be able to drill holes to screw it in. i could try but chances are it'll slit the steel as so close to the edge of the pre-cut hole for old PSU's.

my dad said i should hire a welding kit but last time i welded anything was at college 4 years ago and my workshop tech. said

"well done ben, thats classic bird **** welding right there"

then got everyone in class to look at it LOL.

would super glue do the job? i don't know what PSU i'm going to buy but it'll prolly be a Galaxy or something of the near 1KW type.

i don't want to hear a crash~crunch~crack in the middle of a game and the PSU along with the back plate has dropped out and fallen into onto my motherboard/GFX card.

all ideas welcome - please help :)

not updated this past week as my camera finally died. its been taking dodgy pics for a lil while now but i've only been priming sanding priming sanding priming sanding painting sanding painting... you get the idea.

tomorrow i'll be in and out of the garage again between rugby matches hopefully putting the final coat of black on my side panels and getting the insides of the case with another coat of white.

my dad managed to drill some holes for the PSU plate to sit as i snapped two of his drill bits.

with out a camera i prolly won't update until its finished or i get a new one.

its looking good though and i'm very happy with the paint job i've done which is good.

can anyone advise me please on clear coats? after final coat of black should i sand it smooth and then spray with a clear coat? how many coats? do i then sand that back or just leave it.

last question. for painting on plastic do i have to buy different paints or should the car spray paints i bought from halfords be ok?

well i decided that a modding thread with a broken camera is not much use so i've moved my (now dry) case back into my room so i can use my webcam for some low~quality pics.

i do apologise but here is how the paint has come along this past week/weekend.

a bird managed to crap on my case just before i was going to give it a second coat of primer lol so that is why the top of the case is white and not black like the rest.

the insides, drive bays, and inside face of the side panels are gloss white as i thought it'd look rad and have a nice contrast to the black of the exterior plus with red and uv cold cathodes inside it'd make it bright.

i would like help/advise on the clear coat as in my previous post i'm not 100% sure how to use it.

This is looking awesome, that rocker switch panel & hard drive holder me likes a lot.

I really like it too when someone does different shapes in windows.

This really does prove that with a lot of imagination and work you can turn an ugly case into something unique and special looking.

Keep the the good work m8

cheers guys.

today i got some more goodies. i think that i now have received everything i will need (except plastic primer for my fascia panel).

my super strong (stick tables to the ceiling) 3m tape finally came. also sticky~back velcro stripes so that i can mount the cold cathode inverters out the way but also be able to remove them with ease for what ever reason i'd need to do that.

i've also mounted the mesh on the front of the case. but not stuck it in yet as need to paint it but i was getting excited to see what it'd look like with mesh so cut it to size already for when the painting is all completed.

i've finished all the filling and sanding that was needed on the fascia and although this picture doesn't do it justice it does look nice and smooth.

hey, yeah i'm still doing it. i've gone to uni though so when i go home next weekend for reading week i'll finish the piant and clear coat it and then look into buying a plastic primer and that'll be the exterior done.

looking into buying a cheapish but half decent digital camera also so i'll be able to take some pictures that don't look patchy and crap lol.

cheers for your interest :)

Lookin' good, nice to see a truly custom case. I think it will look fantastic.
Oh and remember - It's a family forum, watch out for the swearies.

not dead. just in much need of money. uni has destroyed any spare cash i had.

i have bought a Galaxy 850W though randomly which was over kill for the tiny shuttle i got for uni but i'll be using that in this case hopefully this summer with a decent job.

lol, I bought one of these with the server guts still inside ages ago. Quad Pentium Pro CPU's and 8 10,000RPM SCSI drives for 200 pounds , it was an old British Gas server I think. I've never done a single thing with it, its just sitting beside my desk. It boots though, I've tried it. It has a tape drive and stuff, the PS/2 ports wont detect any mice though so I don't know what to do with it :S
